Dear Readers:
Thank you, as ever, for your comments and questions. As always, I appreciate hearing from you and am grateful for your encouragement and support.
A quick update. Because many of you have asked, I will quickly address the film version of A Thousand Splendid Suns.
It is being adapted to the screen by Steve Zaillian, the brilliant screenwriter behind Schindler’s List and Searching for Bobby Fisher. The film will be produced over at Sony/Columbia by Producer Scott Rudin, who just won an Oscar for No Country For Old Men. As of now, the matters of casting, location, and language have not been decided.
As for me, I am doing quite well, settling down after a few months of traveling –though I will go to Italy tomorrow to do some press for The Kite Runner film which has opened there, and then off to London to attend the British Galaxy Book Awards. After that, I should have a nice stretch of time to stay home, and hopefully write!
I want to bring your attention to a story that I feel strongly about. I wrote an op-ed piece about this for The Wall Street Journal earlier this year. A young Afghan journalism student named Sayed Parwez Kaambakhsh has been sentenced to death for downloading and distributing an article that allegedly insults the tenets of Islam. The article addresses polygamy and questions why men can have multiple spouses but women cannot. A panel of three judges passed the sentence on the basis that the article is blasphemy, and Mr. Kaambakhsh has been in custody for nearly six months, appealing his sentence.
This story is disappointing to me as an Afghan. Over the last few years, I have applauded the Afghan government for trying to distance itself from the oppressive rule of the Taliban and for its efforts to give people more personal freedom. But if this sentence is carried out, I think it will be a very significant step backward for Afghanistan . The leaders of Afghanistan cannot claim, on the one hand, that the country is on its way to becoming a free democratic state, and on the other hand execute its own citizens for downloading articles that offend the sensibilities of a few religious clerics.
I see this case as an opportunity to show the world that Afghanistan has changed, to demonstrate to those countries that have committed money and troops that zealotry and intolerance have no place in this new Afghanistan. Afghan leaders should not miss this opportunity.
So I add my voice to those of organizations such as Reporters Without Borders, and ask that Afghan leaders spare Mr. Kaambakhsh. To let this sentence be carried out would not only by a tragedy for the Kaambakhsh family, but a terrible setback for all of us who hope for a more tolerant and free Afghanistan.
That’s it for now. Thank you again for all your kind words and encouragement.
Until next time.
Khaled
P.S. Have read several great book galleys lately, all of which should be in stores soon: The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway, One More Year, by Sana Krasikov, and Unaccustomed Earth, by the wonderful Jhumpa Lahiri. And for those of you who have not as yet read Dave Eggers’ What is The What, I highly recommend it. It is one of my favorite books of the last decade.

A Thousand Splendid Suns is beautiful. I read a huge number of books but this is a true gem -a story as vivid as it is moving. While we are often shown a biased and one dimensional view of Afghanistan, A Thousand Splendid Suns humanizes an often misunderstood and poorly captured crisis.
Many thanks and best wishes.
Hello Mr. Hosseini,
It is pleasure to read your work, I am keenly awaiting your next novel. Please give us an update on your next book. I liked the movie The Kite Runner but it did not have the same impact as the book, then again it would be really hard for any film maker to do justice to your talent!
I just finished reading The Kite Runner. I loved the book because it reminded me so much of growing up in Abu Dhabi. Some of my fondest memories are of flying kites with my father at the beaches and breakwater. Your book made me think of my childhood.
Thank you.
Hello,
I have just finished reading your book The Kite Runner, and I just wanted to say thank you. It was an amazing book, and I do not remember the last time a book has touched me like this one did. I am not used to weeping when I read a book, but I could not stop doing so toward the last half. It reminded me so much of how much I care for my father, and that even though he is still alive, the thought of losing him just tears my heart out. But to read of Amir having to live through the experience, it really hit home with me. And after that, I just could not stop. I want to thank you for this amazing piece of literature, and I've been trying to think of a way to incorporate it into a Global Studies class I am teaching for my student teaching course. Anyway, I think you are an amazing and truly gifted writer, and I look forward to reading your next novel.
Thank you very much.

Dear Khaled,
Thank you so much for your wonderful stories of destruction and hope.
I have only recently read your stories as being of Hazara origin, I knew they would be particularly emotive and warranted being in the right emotional space. That time came these past couple of months. But as I fought back the salty tears of pain, I am glad I did and will forward them as gifts to nieces and, when they are old enough, to nephews.
Thank you for putting Afghanistan, and the even lesser known Hazaras on the map.
May Khuda bring peace to our watan and bless you and your family with many more stories.

Your two books are one of the best I've ever read. Thank you for such inspiring novels, it really changed the world.
I am so excited to hear that A Thousand Splendid Suns is becoming a movie!! The Kite Runner was a great movie and I am realling looking forward to the next movie and hopefully, a new novel of yours :]
When I opened your book, The Kite Runner, My heart melted in the first sentence. My very being entered that world and felt the guilt, shame, pride, inadequacies and disappointment and finally, the compassion, resolution, determination and redemption and exquisite deep love. Your characters live in my psyche. You are a magnificent wordsmith and a masterful artist, an extremely gifted storyteller. This book will become a classic for the ages. Thank you for this masterpiece.
Both The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns touched my soul like no other books have ever done. I have bought copies of each to give to family and friends. Thank you so much for writing them and I hope there will be more. While reading both books I was constantly asking my husband, who is an Iranian, all the Farsi words in the books. They added so much to my understanding and enjoyment of the stories. Thank you for touching my soul!
I read The Kite Runner for a class (at SJSU, nonetheless), and read A Thousand Splendid Suns two weeks ago. I bawled like a big baby, Hosseini. You're a great writer, and I hope you write many, many more books that make me cry.
The Kite Runner & A Thousand Splendid Suns, were the best books I have read recently. They set out the sadnesses which hurted by battles, especially for women&children, for the commons. They bring me to the mind about the ribulation of our own nation.Excepting for the writers as Hosseini in China.
Love you,goodwill envoy.
And sorry for my poor english.
Dear Mr. Hosseini-- I just finished reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Your gift of storytelling is remarkable. I have to pause for a few seconds at the end of almost every chapter simply because I'm awestruck by what I've read. I also cried especially in the last chapter of Mariam!! Anyway, I used to be an avid reader as a child and young adult, but stopped reading for pleasure more or less. Your stories made me remember how much I loved it. Nothing is more entertaining. You are a blessing Mr. Hosseini. Thank you.
Dear Khaled,
I enjoyed your stories : The Kite Runner & A Thousand Splendid Suns. I read both novels for many times and still cannot control my dropping tears. These 2 stories touch my soul. PS. Many Taiwanese readers love your both books too much. Hope you can visit Far-East Asia some day.
Dear Khaled,
I just read The Kite Runner yesterday, and can't wait to see the movie and read your second novel this weekend! You are a truly gifted storyteller and your book speaks to the immigrant experience with rare insight and power. As a descendent of Chinese wartime refugees, I cannot tell you how much your book meant to me.
I just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. It is a beautiful story. I had tears in my eyes while reading the last chapters, and I must say, I`ve never cried while reading a book before. It gave me a new understanding of events that were happening in Afhganistan. Thank you.

Dear Khaled, I have read both your books and they were one of the best books I have ever read. Your style of writing is so adddicting and graphic in a good way. It was very intense for me to read your books but I am looking foward to your next book and movie. Keep up the good work!
My first read of your book is " The Kite Runner" and all I can say is the journey is tough but the memories of childhood, pain and culture always go back to where we are born. A lovely piece and enjoyed reading. I did see the movie and its brilliant.
Best wishes on your future endeavor.
Dear Khaled,
I read your book The Kite Runner and it was truly amazing experience. It has already became a bestseller here in my country, Serbia. I am glad that I had an opportunity to get a new insight in the life of Afghani people. It is in human nature to be afraid of the things which are strange, unfamiliar and incomprehensible to them. You did a great job by giving us the chance to understand the people and their way of life in country which sounds so strange to the most of us. You gave us the chance to remember that people are people, with the same needs, drives and desires no matter where they live. I have to admit that I maybe had some prejudices about Afghanistan, but by reeding your book it changed my point of view. I think it is a remarkable accomplishment what you made. I personally know how it is when people have a bad impression about your nation, and just because they do not know enough. People like you, who had the chance to look at the world from different points of view, can build bridges between different civilizations, but only a few really do that. That is only one of the reasons I find your work truly amazing.
All the best!
Ljiljana
Dear Mr. Hosseini
Your novel "A Thousand Splendid Suns" was absolutely amazing ...mashaAllah
No book I have read before has evoked the similiar emotion, feeling, empathy, joy and satisfaction as this book whislt reading it.
It would be amazing if this literary gift be translated into an onscreen movie...the emotional factor no doubt will explode in a visual experience.

Both books are masterful works of storytelling. You have a wonderful gift. Keep writing!
I will be sure to pass on all the links in your website about helping out. Your stories have inspired me. Thank you.
Both books, " The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid
Suns" were sad, but WONDERFUL! They certainly gave me a better understanding of what the people in your country have been through for so many years, especially women.
Thank- you so much for helping me understand.

Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I just finished reading The Kite Runner. It was beautifully described and very moving. My heart still aches every time I think about Sohrab, Hassan, and Afghanistan.
I also read your biography and was surprised to see that you majored in medicine. How did you learn to write so brilliantly. Can you give some advice to aspiring writers.
Thank you very much.

Dear Mr. Hosseini
I just finished The Kite Runner today, and I can't wait to get my hands on A Thousand Splendid Suns! I couldn't put it down, the book touch me dearly. I am saddened that Amir (as Rahim putted it) was so "hard on himself," and Hassan and Amir never received a chance to reunite. However, I am glad that Hassan remained an optimist to the end, and Sohrab, he is a miracle in himself. :) Moreover, The Kite Runner openned my eyes to so many things a world away.
You are amazing, your books travel by word-of-mouth at my high school! and in the end, I find that (one of many reasons) you are successful because you tell the stories that many people cannot tell, or won't tell. I look back and see that Sohrab and I are not much different, he came to America only two years after I had. My family came as refugees from Vietnam. And reading this book, I had wondered about my own parents and their lives before me. Thank you for speaking out for those who cannot. I apologize for digressing, but your book was truly a gem, one that I don't regret spending my spring break to read :)
People of the world will be looking forward to more of your magic words, Mr. Hosseini!
Khoda hafez (God bless, goodbye, if I'm correct)
I 've just finished reading The Kite Runner, as I am planning to see the movie this evening. I enjoyed the book although I wish I could have read it in English and not in Italian. I believe it was a good translation. I read A Thousand Splendid Suns in English. In any case I read both books without stopping and I enjoyed very much the full immersion in the islamic culture and food recipes from Afghanistan. I could appreciate how great Hosseini's love for his country grew as he lived in the US just as mine grew while I lived in the States in the eighties. HIs love for the people and his kindness to the many problems children face there make him a Must for generations to come and I am proud to say that in my school journal on of my 12 year old girls wrote an excellent review of his second book.
I love your books and cant wait to read more of them.
Dear Khaled, As Salaam-u-Aleikum,
first, I want to say that I am very glad to be your compatriot. When I heard of your book The Kite Runner, I was really curious to read it. I had never heard about an afghan story writer before. This book, and of course A Thousand Splendid Suns, are the greatest books I have ever read. No one can show better the situation of Afghans, espacially afghan women, than you did in your book A Thousand Splendid Suns. And no one can tell better about the fear of the people of Afghanistan; a fear that every one felt, when he or she was in that war, that demanded so many civillian victims.
I love the way you write and how you describe Afghanistan to the readers. Your way to project the details to the readers is really brilliant. Many people don't know anything about our country, but when they start reading your books they can't get enough about it.
I would really like to meet you in person one day, as you are my idol. Thank you for great books and I hope that many of them are following.
I wish you all the best for you and your family.

Mr Hosseini,
It would be difficult to find words to describe the impact your books had on me last year, and I am sure that you have heard it all before. Just let me count myself another fan, and tell you that I have given and loaned out both of your books over and over again.
I also want to agree with you about What is the What, which I also read last year. I know it is supposed to be a novel, but the story essentially true. I was lucky enough to meet a charming, Sudanese lady called Mende Nazer on a plane last year, who told me a little about herself, and mentioned that she had written a book about her own experiences in Sudan (which is to put it mildly). It is not fiction, and is called "Slave". Title says it all I guess.
I first read ‘The Kite Runner’ during the winter holidays some time ago. I cried and I cried and I cried again. After I finished it, I started telling everyone I knew to read it, gave it as a present to a couple of friends, and kept referring to it in conversations. I was not going mad but only being selfish. I had been totally and deeply touched by the story of Amir and Hassan and simply needed to talk about it. It felt more real than the truth, it felt as if I had known those characters and wanted to have more news, to read the stories of Rostan and Sohrab, and get to know that ancient culture a little bit more. And of course it was even more so with ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ where I felt the pain of Mariam in my bones and struggled with those women who were given a voice in a beautiful and authentic way.
I am sure that hundreds of people are writing to you to thank you for your stories, but the reason I am doing it is to thank you for the example you gave me, because you are not writing in your native language but mostly because of the incredible contribution you are giving to literature. I finally decided to take on a course of creative writing because of you, because I want to be a writer, because I believe that stories can touch your heart, can help you grow and change. I believe that we all share a common destiny and that we should do our best to find a way for people to understand that. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the emotions you made me feel with your words, for the poetry and the love you put in your work, for showing that hope and beauty and faith are still possible even in a reality of sorrow and distress.
The thought that you might read this fills me with pride and I hope that you will share again your imaginative world with us very soon…
With all my respect and gratitude

When is your next book coming out?
Dear Dr. Hosseini,
I finished reading your book "A Thousand Splendid Suns" yesterday and till now I cannot stop thinking about it. I am a Pakistani and seeing Afghan migrants around is a normal thing and being a Pakhtun myself I always feel a soft corner for them but I must admit that after reading your book new feelings of deep respect and care for them have developed in my heart. I have become conscious to treat them with more kindness and love lest I hurt a Laila or a Tariq or perhaps a Mariam who have already had their share of grieves and pains. Your book has made me humble and has also strengthened my committment for raising voice for the rights of muslim women who are always supressed by giving distorted messages from Quran.
Thank you for writing such a beautiful and powerful book.
Best,
Humaira
Dear Dr. Hosseini:
I watched the "The Kite Runner" and just finished "A Thousand Splendid Suns". I am so moved by your work. Thank you bringing the plight of the people of Afghanistan to light. As an African-American Muslim, it is hard to see the distorted images of Islam thru the media; but even more difficult is to see what my fellow muslims endure a regular basis. This has made me realize that I must be more active in my charity, and I will do what I can for the women of Afghanistan. May Allah continue to bless you in your writing, and I look forward to the movie "A Thousand Splendid Suns".
Peace & Blessings,
Vinessa Bryant
I just finished reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" this evening. The first time I remember hearing of the plight of women in Afghanistan, I was watching a documentary (prior to 9-11) in which a female reporter, putting herself at risk, interviewed women and children of that region. I couldn't believe that people were really treated in such a way. I've lived a truly sheltered life here in America and it pains me that I've been so ignorant of the suffering that goes on elsewhere in the world. The pain, torture and brutality in this book at times was difficult to absorb. But at the same time it was so beautifully written, I had to hold out hope that the women would somehow prevail. It is a truly wonderful book. Reading it has made me want to become involved in the causes for women and children of Afghanistan. Communication and education cannot help but bring about eventual understanding and peace. You have done worlds toward that end with your stories. Though they may be fiction, their basis is true and eye-opening to people like myself. I look forward to your future works and brighter days for Afghanistan as well.
Dear Khaled Hosseini.
You have written the most important and impressive books I have ever read in my life. To put Afghanistan on the map and tell people around the world about the situation in this country, I tink is very important. Your stories of the families in both books give us a situation to understand the difficulties of your country. You have done a important job writing this books to inform the world about the situations in all countries exposed for war.
The main caracters in both books are all described in a beautiful way. The tale of sufferings for Amir, Hassan, Laila and Mariam is heart-rending and makes us cry for several days.
Thank you for this great and important stories. I wish you, your family and your country the all best for the future.
Best regards from
Anette.
Dear, Dr. Hosseini

Dear Dr. Hosseini,
I finished reading your book “The Kite Runner” in Chinese and bought an English edition yesterday. I introduced this novel to my students and want everyone I knew to read it. The children of Afghanistan are happy and lucky because of you and your novels. You give me a chance to recall my childhood: I also have a little buddy like Hassan, and at one time when we were 15 years old I was not stand out for him when he was punched because of me by older guys. After that event, he was dismissed by school and lingered on the street, and we separated from each other since then. He is still in prison now since seven years ago but I am a teacher in a university and pass a doctor entrance examination recently. I am on my way running my dream. It is difficult to find words to describe my feelings, my heart is ached. What I can do now is to do some help for his family as much as I can.
My dream is to be a mature scientist and your novels encourage me to go ahead.
I ran.
Thank you very much and may you own the Nobel Prize.
Good luck!
A Tea Science teacher from China.
I have read both The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns in the past 2 weeks, also viewing The Kite Runner. I will be forever touched by these two stories. They may be "fiction" but you have told the stories from facts ... what actually occurs.
Bless you and your wonderful story telling talents. I anxiously await your 3rd novel and the movie based on "Suns."
Thank you for sharing your stories and talents with all of us!
Dear Mr Khaled Hosseini,
I have had the pleasure of reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. I believe im speaking on behalf of many readers when i say "Thank you" for writing such a book.
Hi Mr.Hosseini,

Only onethng I can say is The Kite Runner is awesome, and it takes the reader to the real world.

Dear Dr Hosseini,
All I can really say is thankyou. I am profoundly touched by your work. Both you books blew my mind and heart. Whilst your work is ficton it must touch on so many people´s realities.
Best wishes,

Mr.Hosseini aziz
I've got your second book as a gift and when i started reading it, i could read it till the end. I've seen and known so many Afghans in iran but we never felt the pain they went through, we never could see them in their real life not what war made them, i am happy to know more about Afghans and i hope to read your next book soon.
I've seen The Kite Runner film but i can say that the book still is something else, if there would be a film from your second book i hope they can manage to make a better film out of it, best wish and luck for you,

Dear Dr.Hosseini,
I just finished reading your second book,"A Thousand Splendid Suns" and i must say, it is the only book i couldn't just put down without completely reading it.So, i finished the whole book in about 15 hours. I am eagerly waiting for your third book.....Are you working on another one yet?
Trupthi Kashyap
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
thank you for bringing this story about the young Afghan to our attention. We miss so many stories about injustice. I hope that the Afghan government will embrace reason!
Months ago I began a new textile artistic work I called "soulkites", based upon my memories of my brother and me flying kites when we were little. I was always jealous because he wouldn't let me hold the kite very often as I was his little sister and not supposed to fly a kite.
I began this work and in the middle got stucked, and put it on hold (it has been lying under my bed since then) This happens, your certainly know this state of mind, as this must happen to writers too, I guess.
Weeks ago I found your book "The Kite Runner" (and also "A Thousand Splendid Suns") in the english bookshop on the Champs Elysée. Or better, it found me. I thought "oh, what an interesting title, maybe this will inspire me".
I read the book this weekend, and like everyone else commenting here, loved every sentence of it, hated Amir for his weaknesses and loved him for his frankness. Love this country too, Afghanistan, about which I know almost nothing. I smiled and I cried and hoped and ranted.
Your book is inspiration.
Now I can go on working on my soulkites.
Thank you :)
Have a wonderful week,
greetings from Paris
Andrea
Dear Mr.Khaled Hosseini,
It was indeed a true pleasure to read your book" The Kite Runner".I can confidently say that it is the best book ive ever read and have been reccomending it to all my friends.I believe that the first few lines of a book says so much about how the rest of it is going to be.I must say that from the minute I opened the book I was sure it was going to be the best ever.Thank you so much for bringing a book like this to my life.I will remember it forever.
I am looking forward to reading you new book and Im sure you will have a lot more coming our way in the years to come.
Thank you
Chaitra
Hello Mr. Hosseini,
Your book, The Kite Runner, is the best book I've read so far - and, being an avid reader, I've read many!! I bought many copies and gave them out to my friends. In bookstores, I've approached people I see holding your book to sing my praises for it....I dare say, I should receive a commission!! :-)
I waited with bated breath for "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and wasn't disappointed. I missed work on Monday to finish it!
Whatever you do.....keep writing because I'm waiting for more....and more!!! Thank you.
As I put down a Thousand Splendid Suns and dry the tears from my eyes I am writing immediately to thank you Khaled. From the comfort of a free democracy I have had the luxury of hiding behind apathy, away from the plight of ordinary Afghan people. That is until now.
You have awakened my heart and my soul, my sense of injustice and a sense of deep respect for a people who have continued despite the atrocities they have and still are enduring. I admit my guilt, my indifference, my ignorance and in writing this book you have held me to account.
To quote a Holocaust survivor I met a few years ago:
May you never commit such acts as these,
May you never be a victim of these acts,
but most of all
May you never ever be just a bystander.
Thank you Khaled for giving me back my awareness and my consciousness.
I will try in my own way to make a difference.
Andrew.
Hello Mr. Hosseini,
I am a fan of your work and have now read both The Kite Runner and just now, A Thousand Splendid Suns. I like to read a book or watch a film in order to be moved, that is emotionally and spiritually, and your work does just that for me. I wanted to share a few points I took from your latest book that especially resonated with me:
1) It is a cherished gift, that can never be forgotten, when someone loves you. I was especially taken with the profound importance Mariam gave to the affection and love given her by Laila and her children. A single act of kindness or courage can change a life (and ultimately did when Mariam killed Rasheed to save Laila), if not a world.
2) What an incredible reminder that with all the freedom and opportunity I have as an American woman, I simply have no excuse not to realize my dreams. There is nothing holding me back. Reading the story gave me inspiration to continue pursuing my goals, but with more determination. I thank you for that motivation.
3) Motherhood is a long and difficult responsibility and one should never forget the role in doing for someone else, while expecting nothing in return. I have a 5 year old daughter I simply adore. I know there will be times when my efforts on her behalf will go unappreciated and that she may not always return my love. It is good to keep this perspective in mind as we navigate the joys and travails of life.
4) Cultural and religious freedoms are to be cherished. I was left quite curious, does your novel accurately depict life for men and women under the fundamentalist Taliban regime? If so, I was incredibly saddened but at the same time ever grateful to enjoy the cultural and religious freedom I have here in the United States. And again, the message I take from that is to recognize it as a gift and make use of it in my life -- what can I do to help someone else or make a difference in the greater world. I thank you for that reminder and motivational jab.
I hope you'll continue to write -- your messages are powerful indeed.
dear Mr.Hosseini i,ve read both of your books plenty of times and was fortunate to see The Kite Runner film.here in Iran as you probably know your books are translated by a very good translator :Mr.Ghabraii .dont know how to express my feelings other than that there were plenty of times ,specialy reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, that i had to close the book and have a deep breath while cleaning my fulling tears!by living next to your country and feeling all the pain we have suffered along with you these years and having the very similar cultural aspects ,your books are very much understanded and felt here by your Iranian readers.you are one of the kind! Avid
Both your books are truly moving, and I am so glad that I read them. As a woman, A Thousand Splendid Suns was especially moving & shocking. I am Japanese & was raised in both the US & Japan, and both countries during my lifetime so far, have not seen war on their own soil. So while I know from the news, that countries like Afghanistan are going through violent times, my knowledge of such issues was very shallow. There was an Afghan professor at my university who taught political science, and word was that he was once royalty in Afghanistan, but his family fled from a coup to France. I wish I'd taken the time to ask him what the Afghanistan he knew was like.
And shallower is the knowledge of many Japanese people born after WWII & have only lived in Japan, as Japan is such a safe, prosperous & isolated nation. Unfortunately, my husband who is very well-educated and a very nice & gentle man, is among the many who do not know nor take interest in the hardships of life in other countries.
Though an ordinary person like me does not have the impact that a gifted author like you has, on making the world aware of just how hard life is in many countries like Afghanistan, at least I can recommend your books to people around me like my husband, so that they will get a look at such issues and take interest. I believe that awareness is an important primary step in trying to achieve as much peace around the world as possible. I am going to look for The Kite Runner in Japanese translation to give to my husband as he doesn't read in English. And I can't wait for your second book to come out in Japanese or in theaters w/Japanese subtitles so that I can share that too w/my husband. As I usually don't do any personal book reading in Japanese, I've only read your works in English, but I hope the moving qualities of your original words have not been lost in the Japanese translation.
I do not have any official training in book translation, but my work for the past 6 years has been translation/interpreting in the field of advertising/marketing, so I can translate. And having visited the Philippines last year on business, and also having read your books, after many years of procrastination, I am finally going to embark on volunteering my translation skills as my way to learn more about situations in other countries, and to be an instrument in contributing to the spread of knowledge & awareness among the Japanese people. I'm going to start translating an English book regarding improvement of life in one of the poorest slums in the Philippines, and after that, I hope to begin helping w/translation of UNHCR news into Japanese.
I hope that you will continue writing stories about your people that will keep people around the world updated on what life is like in recent Afghanistan.
Dear Khaled
I have never felt the need to write to an author before now, I read A Thousand Splendid Suns and it touched me in a way no other book has, so I bought The Kite Runner and am justing coming to the end of it, I was reading it on the train this morning and found it hard to hold back the tears, it's an amazingly well written book and I felt I should say what a talented man you are to think up such a beautiful story and include so many facts about Afghanistan that I had no idea about. I've just ordered the DVD and can't wait to watch it. Keep up the good work - can't wait to read your next book. With best wishes Tina
Dear Mr. Khaled,
It was a real pleasure to read the book 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and 'The Kite Runner'.
I must say you are a very good story teller. I always felt being there in every moment you wrote in the book. And ya, that’s the success of your writing.
I am from India, and I could relate to the pain and sufferings of Afghan people. Thanks to your dramatic writing. I saw the movie 'The Kite Runner' twice and felt that the film had made justice to the book very well.
Wish you all the best to you for your future writings.
I hope to see 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' movie pretty soon.
Dear Khaled,
I live in a small country named Slovenia (Europe). I'm a bookshop manager and after reading (6 month ago!!) A Thousand Splendid Suns I can't read anything else! I've read The Kite Runner too of course. Books are true love of my life and for long, long time it hasn't happened to me to feel so strong about the book (and I have read many of them!!!) I feel like Mariam and Laila are my family... so I think of you as my family too.
Thank you.
Dada
I have just this minute completed A Thousand Splendid Suns. I have also read The Kite Runner. I am an avid reader and I must say that I have never read such beautifully written books. Although both books deal with such sadness and brutality they are written in a way that grabs you and keeps your interest from start to finish. Your words are compelling and I seriously doubt that any movie would be able to capture the flow of what you write. Thank you.
Dear Mr Khaled Hosseini,
My name is Amra and I live in Sarajevo. At the moment I am reading Your book ˝A Thousand Splendid Suns˝. All I can say is that I am sooo impressed with the book. Especailly, because some situations that are discribed in the book happened in Sarajevo as well (during the war (1992-1996).
I appreciate Your books and Your activities so much and really hope that You will visit Sarajevo soon.
With kind regards and big Thanks for Your books,
Amra
Hello Mr. Hosseini,
The novel "A Thousand Splendid Suns" is one of the best novels I have ever read. I would like to thank you for giving an insight about Afghanistan through this story. Best of luck Brother for your future endeavor.
Dear Khaled
As a working mum I hardly have time to read novels anymore. And when my Aunt gave me A Thousand Splendid Suns a week ago whilst on holiday, I delved into it and was glued for two days solid and couldn't put it down.
I then raced out to buy The Kite Runner, and was entranced from the very first page.
My heart has been touched in an incredible way be these two powerful stories. I feel that I now have a window into a world which is so far from the life I know.
I am suddenly so aware of, and grateful for the freedom that I as a woman have here in South Africa.
Thank you.

Khaled,
Some time last year, I caught an interview with you on NPR about A Thousand Splendid Suns. I had not read The Kite Runner but was instantly interested in the new book simply by your interview. I read it this weekend, and as I was nearing the end, I was moved, though I did not (at first) begin to cry, because I thought maybe I was just trying to get a good cry out of a good book. However, when I got to the part where Laila read Jalil's letter to Mariam, I began to weep. Throughout those last pages of the book, from that point on, I wept as I had not wept since I was a child. Little had I know how deeply I was engulfed in the lives of the characters of your book. Little had I known that I had grown so close over such a short period of time, and that though I read it over a single weekend, it felt like I had been with them their entire lives. It was somewhat difficult getting back into my daily routine after that. I thank you for this wonderful book and I encourage you to continue doing what you do. You affect the lives of many and we thank you.
Dear Dr.Hosseini,
Reading 'The Kite Runner' was like having my heart shattered into a million pieces and slowly pieced back together over and over again. I thought I might have been prepared for 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' but it was ten times more brutal. For instance, after reading the chapter one evening in which Laila gives birth to Zalmai, your words sent my imagination into such a frenzy I was forced to keep reading past my bedtime to avoid having nightmares! And Jalil's final letter to Mariam brought me such a wretched mix of joy and sorrow.
But the reason I treasure your stories so much is that none of your characters, 'good' or 'evil', are ever two dimensional or easily understood and they are so very exposed through your writing. They are all fundamentally human and a natural extension of things we have all felt but at the same time extraordinary.
I also come from a family of refugees and was in awe of how you shed so much light on the devastation of Afghanistan's political situation without really dwelling on politics. I feel I now understand more about the intricacies of war and politics in Afghanistan from reading your books than I ever did reading newspapers or history texts.
Thank you for your honesty and generosity in bringing your stories to us.
Best wishes,
Angelique

Dear Dr. Hosseini:
What I most admire of your work, specifically on A Thousand Splendid Suns is the big capacity to create and talk throug female characters who don't smell like a male author. For me, thats a big gift of talent, because, it's not only enough to deeply know the hazardous kind of life of the women in your country; it takes big sensitivity and heart work to make them come to life, be loved, admired, empathized with and to cry along with their tragedies.
I got intimate with Mariam as well as for Laila in only a few lines; I could really feel how Mariam felt when she was left alone with her flowers and her bag, because the author made me capable of doing that so easily!
Kindest regards.
Dear Khaled,
Read both your books and saw the film.
My sense of relating to the narratives of both your books are dauntingly real. As a teenager, I lived in the war zone of the 80s, witnessed many heart-wrenching atrocities, experienced personal loss of family member as one of the thousands causlities of war, and in short, lived through the garden variety of horros which the wars offer.
Being a woman is never been an easy walk in the "park" for Afghan women most of the time, particulary in the midst of a war. I know it since i lived it. I can recall the days I was told I could not go to school while I was living in Herat. I thought my life was over as I knew it. But, it went on and so did the desire to defy the odds and make it to the finish line of graduating from school even if it meant making a deal with the devil to wear 'chawdaree" or fliriting with the flying bullets and thousands of opportunities for death to end it all.
Thank you for the beautiful portrayl of the bravery, loyality and strength of Afghan women.
Thank you for writing our stories so well. I feel the burden of telling "the sotries" a little less now, thanks to you. Still, many more to tell.
I am a freelance Afghan-American journalist/advocte and passionate reader.
I am simply, deeply and enourmously proud of you and your work. The ease of your story telling is very inviting even if we have to face up to the social, political and cultural sensibilities, pride, needs and flaws.
I never had the chance to meet in person, but, if you happend to be in D.C. area, it will be an honor to meet with you and have a sit down for an interivew.
Best,
Shakila Khalje

Dear Mr. Hosseini,
Thank you for sharing your stories with the world. You are sharing your love and understanding of Afghanistan with the world and by doing so are profoundly changing each reader. You are making our world smaller by enabling love and understanding to criss-cross the globe. So many of us did not begin to understand the implications of Afghanistan's history upon civilians. Many of us live lives that have been relatively safe and cannot easily comprehend the tragedies humans inflict on one another and endure. You paint your characters with so much dimension that they come alive and live in our hearts. You describe their love of their children and it makes me hold my own children tightly and burst with love. You remind us that we are all one world and that we could easily have been born Afghani's and lived a life like one of your characters. Thank you for bringing insight and understanding into my life. Thank you for making the world a better place for us all.
Mr. Hosseini,
I read The Kite Runner in four days and just had to read A Thousand Splendid Suns after that. I'm only fifteen, but I wanted to read The Kite Runner because so many people around me were. I love your writing style. More than that, though, your books opened my eyes to the true suffering in Afghanistan; the innocent victims that have gone through so much pain and grief. I feel insignificant, my problems irrelevant, my "pain" trivial and inconsequential.
Your books have made me think, really think.
Thank you for writing such wonderful books, books that tell a human story, but also give insight into the real plight of a country. It was a moving experience reading them.
Bye!
Jasmin
Your books have enabled me to have an insight into a world that has been, until now, so far removed from my reality as to be fiction. For that I am grateful and thank you for making difficult truths possible to confront, even though I still find it hard to comprehend man's inhumanity to its fellow being. You have a great gift to communicate, and I hope it will empower you to do good.
When I read A Thousand Splendid Suns, I was educated, moved and enlightened. It is eye-opening, heart-breaking, triumphant and perhaps one of the best books I have ever come across.
Many thanks.
Erica
I have just finished reading The Kite Runner, and I read A Thousand Splendid Suns last year. Both books were incredibly moving and beautifully written--while you write of the pain and suffering the people of Afghanistan have faced, there is always a hope to your stories.
Both books left me extremely moved and deep in thought. You have opened my eyes and mind to see the people of Afghanistan in a new light. Thank you for writing these wonderful novels, and please, please write more!
Hi,
I'm still reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, it is amazing . I even take it with me to work becuase I can not stop :-). It is really great. Through reading your first and this novel I became aware of so many thing in Afghanistan especially the social side.
Hi Mr.Khaled,
I happened to borrow A Thousand Splendid Suns from my friend,I couldnot keep the book down.....i was readin it when i was eating, watchin tv ...It was an amzing masterpiece crafted by a master craftsman. I would like to tell you that YOUR BOOK ROCKS.It jus brings the whole agfhanistan before my eyes, the plight of the people and the characters in the story, the love and emotions.I finished the book in a single day. I am in a dilemma whether to encourge your boooks or not coz it made me weep :)and i dont like to cry...hats off to u Mr.Khaled.
Dear Mr Khaled
I recently walked into a book shop and came across 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' i knew straight away that i wanted to buy it as i follow through books what is going on in Afghanistan and other bordering countries. I am not very interlectual as you will probebly notice from my writing but have a very wondering mind, and in your book i found a great understanding of the difficulties in Afghanistan (but understanding that the story was fiction). i have a great love and respect for afghan people and would love one day when my daughter is older for me to visit the country and visit the people. Iam 34 my daughter is 10 and my life is busy but i look so foward to reading your books both, and i hope us readers will be reading another soon. I would love if in some way you could let me know how i could support Afghanistan. i wish you and your family all te good health in the world and hope to be at one of your book signings one day maybe in Afghanistan.

I finished The Kite Runner last night and now I feel forever changed. This is the best book I have ever read.
I'm getting A Thousand Splendid Suns tomorrow!
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.
Dear Khaled
You have a special gift to be able to communicate in the way you did in your 2 beautiful books. My only question is when is the third one going to arrive?

Salaam Aleikum, Khaled Jan!
I'm a Romanian young girl interested in muslim people, customs and literature (especially Pakistani and Afghans). I'm totally and deeply touched by both THE KITE RUNNER and A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS. Your wonderful books are the best I've ever read. They've had an extraordinary impact on me and I have no words to express it...they are just great...
THANK YOU!
I look forward to reading your next book.

I read your book - The Kite Runner - on the plane from San Diego to Boston. I loved it. It made me smile, it made me sooooo angry, it made me cry...and it made me happy. However, ultimately it made me see the afghani people.. and it changed my point of view. From now on I will not judge a country based on the media or politics.
I am now going to read A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Thank you so much for opening my eyes.. and my heart.

Dear Mr. Khaled,
I'm writing you from Uruguay (South America). I am a Catholic priest and I've just finished "Cometas en el Cielo". Let me say you thanks a lot for your book; it's splendid and unforgetable. Now I know something about your country and about Afganisthan people, and I feel more that the most necessary is to pray all of us for all of us.
Please give my best regards to your wife and, for you, "un fuerte abrazo" (please, translate this).
Sincerely yours,
Fr. Jaime Fuentes

Dear Khaled,
I have just read your book A Thousand Splendid Suns in farsi version in Iran.
This book is excellent ,the best book about your country that I have ever read, actually I can not see Afghanistan as a different country from my Iran and I admire you that you write about the great heros of afghanistan, The Women.
I hope that I can read more books from you and there is nothing to say just onething :

Dear Mr.Hosseini, I am a senior in high school and this school year two of the books we had to read was The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns and they were by far the best books I have read in a long time. Thank you so much for restoring my faith in literature.
Alessandra
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
My husband and I read both of your books and enjoyed discussing them together. He favored The Kite Runner and I favor A Thousand Splendid Suns! Both are works of art! So powerful, expressive and poetic. You have helped by giving us a window on what other people are suffering and squeezed at our hearts as to how we can be moved to be of help to others. You have done a good thing! We will try to be patient in waiting for your another masterpiece of your work! I keep those in such sad circumstances in my prayers! Thank you many times over...
Tara
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
Thank you ever so much for your The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. I was born in the Middle East and newly married, we immigrated to Brasil in 1953.In reading your books, I was strongly moved by your descriptions and believe there is much of your personal experience during your life in Afghanistan, and my feelings and experience in Egypt accompanied yours. God has Blessed you with a wonderful gift, and may your prayers and efforts for the Good Cause be an example to all the people of Good Will.
Um grande abraço from

Both books are fabulous -- your writing style is captivating, mesmerizing. I believe The Kite Runner is one of the most important books of contemporary times and have added it to my (Texas) college English curriculum. The students, who generally protest at having to read much at all (and who tend to rely on Cliff's Notes) come to class reporting that they cannot put the book down. They are ANGRY, they are sad, they are empathetic, and they have learned about atonement and redemption.
You're a busy man, but you could make a big difference in the lives of some kids if you would take time to respond.
Thanks!
Your many admirers have said everything good that can be said about THE KITE RUNNER. (I have not yet read A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS.) Halfway through the book, I saw the film and was so pleased with it. Initially, I had thought that after seeing the movie I probably would not be interested in finishing the book. To the contrary, I must finish reading the book to discover the little important points about which you write so beautifully, but the film might have omitted.
Since seeing the film, I have been on the Internet to learn more about the Hazara people and the country as a whole. You must know that Americans know very little about foreign nations, particularly those middle eastern ones. I commend you on helping a lot of us to become a little more knowledgeable about Afghanistan, and thereby understanding more about its people. We only fear that which we don't know.
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I just finished reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'
I never knew I could cry this much. Thank you for this touching story of love and hope. May all your days be filled with Light and may all your dreams come true.
Keep writing, even when you fear you cannot write as well as you did, even when doubt creeps in, never give it up, your writing is a gift you give not only to others but also to yourself.
Thank You,
Zainab
Dear Mr Hosseini,
I start reading The Kite Runner immediately after boarding an airplane which would take me from Hong Kong to Amsterdam. A terrible, boring and uncomfortable (6"4 ft on economy class) day-flight. Anyhow, 12 hours and 310 pages went by without me taking a breath and there I was, Amsterdam. Therefore, I would like to thank you for me having my most enjoying though moving flight ever.
This weekend I read A Thousand Splendid Suns, and I regret not having waited untill my next long flight. Still speachless.
Thank you and all the best!
best regards,
Timothy Whittington
Dear Sir,
I have just finished reading The Kite Runner and I must say that the book has left a huge impact on my life. Now I now that I have a bigger motive in my life than to just be successful for myself, I now know that I have a moral obligation towards my country, my people!
Thank you!

Any chance you'll be in Uganda soon? I would love for you to come and speak to my students.
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
There are so many comments for you to read, but I ask you to read mine with a little atention. I don't speak English so well, sorry if I make some mistakes.
I'm a brazilian girl, I'm 17, and I've just beginned the course of Language and Literature (college, as they call in U.S.)I want you to know how much you inspire me, you're the best writter i've ever read. When I start to read your books, I just can't stop. I've read The Kite Runner (O Caçador de Pipas, here in Brazil) and I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns (A cidade do sol, here... something like "The city of the sun")...
I want to be a writter in the future, and you're my inspiration! Thank you...
I've cried when I read The Kite Runner for the first time... (I've read twice)
But I think the film wasn't so good...
So many details have been forgotten..
Thank you again! God bless you..
Brazil loves you!
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
It has been a long time since I have picked up a book, I'm a nurse and a favorite patient who has died told me about A Thousand Splendid Suns, I kept avoiding it because I thought of her but I picked it up the other night and I could not put it down, I read it till 3 in the morning and I'm haunted by it. Your writing is so wonderful you feel as if you know the characters as family and you hope you would have the same courage inside of you. I woke up the next morning and hugged my children, I felt the deep pain as a child being torn from you when Aziza went to the orphanage. It made me proud to be a woman, deep inside, the strength to overcome and the love for your children above all. You inspired me to donate to the UNHCR, and my children and I then sponsored a child at Save THe Children and as fate would have it, the young girl is from Belcheragh, Afghanistan. Thank you for your wonderful book! Donna, New York
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I'v read both of your novels, A Thousand Splendid Suns & The Kite Runner. The story was awesome, brilliant and full of emotion. Congratulation for successfully writing a remarkable masterpeice. I'm looking forward to watch the films soon.

Dear Sir,
I have just finished reading "A Thousand Spendid Suns" this morning, and I must say, I am deeply touched. I lived in an African country for three years that had a moderately large muslim community from the Middle East. I regularily encountered ladies in full burkha. It was my "mission" to try and smile at them and if possible make eye contact and say "Hello". Sometimes, I was fortunate and had return greetings. I have learned now, through your book, why the women did not look up when their husbands were close by. How sad. I have a new appreciation for my freedom as a Western woman. And one who is deeply loved and respected by her husband. I am sorry that Laila had to wait so long for that same pleasure.
I have just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, and after drying my tears, I wanted to thank you, Dr. Hosseini, for your wonderful work! I have never read a book that moved me as this one did, and I can't wait to read The Kite Runner. May love, prosperity and happiness be with you and your family for the rest of your days. Please keep writing!

Dear Khaled,
I just completed 'The Kite Runner' and to say the book was absolutely 'unputdownable' would be a gross understatement. I now look forward to read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'.
The characters, situations, relationships between characters, the entire narrative of 'The Kite Runner' reminded me so much of Hindi films(I noticed that you have made a reference to Hindi films at quite a few places in your book). The emotional quotient is so very akin to our sub-continent. Call it my ignorance or whatever, but I realized that 'The Kite Runner' has been made into a film when I happened to visit your web site. I am so looking forward to get my hands on the DVD. I eagerly want to see how the book has been adapted for the screen.
Please accept my heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for having written a fabulous book. Keep up the amazing work.

It is the amazing to read these comments, becuase it makes me realize how many lives like mine you have touched with your writing. Your books are the most amazing stories I've ever read. Though they bring me to tears and gasps of horror, they also bring me painful smiles and laughter for the love and hope your characters hold in their hearts. They are so real, so tangible. Yet you describe a world so far away from me, so different from my privliged life. You have opened my eyes, if only just a little, to the wide, wide world out there. I want more of these stories. I look forward to the day your next book comes out so I can break it open in the safe comfort of my house and journey into another beautiful world.
Thank you so much.

Hey Khaled,
Great piece of work, man.
I have read "The Kite Runner" and I am on the verge to finish the "A Thousand Splendid Suns".
Your masterpiece has surely toched the heart of millions on the earth!!
KEEP WRITTING, DUDE!!
Your books have truly touched my heart, soul and mind. Since I was little, reading is my passion. I have never, never read any books like your. I am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns again and I will read it again and again. You have captured so many emotions in that book; however it makes me sad to think that people are suffering like that and I am reading about it. You are truly a gift to the world. I cannot describe to you how I feel reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. Page 355 just brought so many tears when Laila made her pilgrimage to where Mariam grew up. How do you do it????? Sometimes I just pick up the book and read that page. I also loved The Kite Runner; however the movie does your book no justice. I am fearful that A Thousand Splendid Suns will also suffer in a movie version. I passed your books on to my husband and children and they also were speechless with what they read. You are truly an AUTHOR.
wow,,,,,,,, ur bewk was awesome,.. u are the one who has inspired me to be a writer,.. i have read the bewk so many times but i have the watched movie so many times too..... The Kite Runner was is a bewk very close to my heart... now i am in bangladesh i just dont know how i can get ur other bewk i am in ctg.. and unfortunately bangladesh doenst have many libraries .........i await ur second bewk desperately man u are one awesome writer..
thanks man
God bless u and ur family
Ps. why was the movie in persian though..???
Hi
I am half-way through reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns". I was glad to learn there was another book available by Hosseini after finishing "The Kite Runner". It is so refreshing to read such well planned and true to life novels. In fact, although they are novels, I trust Mr. Hosseini has weaved actual life in Afghanistan into his stories and in so doing has opened a window for those of us who find it difficult to relate to images we see on the TV. It makes the plight of the people very real to me and creates a link of humanism we can all understand.
oh my gosh realllyyyyyyy....woooow wen is the film comin out?? i loved the book it was splendiddddddd..x
Dear Dr. Hosseini,
I am joining the millions of readers who are praising your books. I read The Kite Runner first, and just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. The richness of these stories and the depth of your writing is astonishing to the very soul. Thank you so much for sharing this part of you with all of us. You are a treasure.
The best of all that life has to offer to you.
LA
Its is quite incredible how you can make a story,A Thousand Splendid Suns, that is tragedy after tragedy, into such an amazing story!!!
I am SO excited it's going to become a movie! I loved watching The Kite Runner, although it didnt do justice to your talent, it was fun watching the scenes that were in my head on the screen, and the best part was that it was so similar to what I had imagined! Can't wait to see Laila and Mariam on the big screen!
CONGRATULATIONS on your work!
and GOOD LUCK with your future projects!!
I finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns day before yesterday. Cannot get it out of my mind. How can one help with the Afghani women's plight?
Hi and congratulations!
You are quite an amazing writer.
I have just recently read The Kite Runner for my 9th grade English class, and it was no doubt my favorite book of the school year.
I am currently writing an essay on it for my final in the class.
I found it extremely interesting to read, I love reading and learning about other cultures and countries, and I just wanted to thank you for writing the novel.
Congratulations again on your accomplishments!
Good luck in the future.
Rachel
I HAVE READ BOTH OF YOUR BOOKS AND HAVE ENJOYED THEM ALOT I ALSO LOVED YOUR MOVIE THE KITE RUNNER AND I CANT WAIT FOR A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS TO BECOME A MOTION PICTURE AS WELL
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR WORK

Hi Khaled,
I read your book The Kite Runner and it really touched me how life was back in 1980s and 1990s. You explore the real life and conditions and opened my eyes about life in Afghanistan.
I'm 17 now and also a Hazara. My family left Afghanistan when I was 2. And I have been living in Sydney Australia for 15 years.
Finally Looking forward to your next novel.

excellent, excellent and excellent.
being a young mum with a hectic lifestyle every spare moment i got i would go and read your books and when i finished your second book a still wished that i hadn't finished the book.i read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" first and thought it was brilliant will the next book be as good? it was even better to my surprise!
Hello Dr. Khaled,
words can hardly describe the gamut of emotions i felt after reading your books. they are such an inspiration. reading "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns" , there are times you laugh though crying, which is a good thing. After reading your books, i went on the net to research more on what has been happening in Afghanistan for the last 40 years and i may say that the media just gives us the cover story of really what is going on there. i truely hope that Afghanistan will heal someday. i can't wait for your next novel(s)
I'm so glad when I read all these comments and realize that there are so many people like me which are so grateful and feel astonished from your novels.
i gave you no trust …when i heard that you work as a doctor ..But now im glad i was wrong. All i can say is that you are born to be a brilliant writer.
Thank you so much for the marvelous book you have share with us.
Cannot wait for the next...

Dear Mr. Hosseini:
I have read your two famous books and I must say this about them. The stories seem to be all based on true stories of the people of Afghanistan and what has happened to them. The stories gave me a l knowledge of recent history of Afghanistan and helped me with the geography as well. God bless you, your family, your country and your efforts.
Both books are fantastic, and i am definitely looking to seeing both movies. You are a amazing author.
These books have had an immense impact on my life. I cannot thank you enough for instilling these ideas into my young mind. I am only 17 but am truly moved by the words on the pages of my two favorite books. I have donated to UNHCR and am very proud to have done so!!!!

Dear Mr. Hosseini
I just finished reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and i am in awe. I've not read a book that satisfying to my intellect for a very long time. I've also not experienced anything that was as much of an emotional rollercoaster in literature or in real life for a very long time. Reading this book makes me feel so lucky and blessed for everything i have and haven't been through. Thank you for this truly moving insight into a world from which many westerners never have to know too much about. I loved every moment of it.
God bless you.
Dear Mr. Hosseini-
I just finished reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" moments ago, and I felt compelled to write to you, even if you may not see it or respond.
I don't know how to put into words the significance of how you portray Islam and the role it plays in the various characters' lives... It speaks to me as someone in a bi-religious (real word?) relationship, in which we are both trying to figure out the role that Christianity and Islam play in our relationship and lives.
Whatever the case may be, thank you so much for sharing these stories and histories of Afghanistan and its people; I am in awe of your work and impelled to be more informed, do more for the world, appreciate what I have.....
Thank you so very much.
God Bless-
Jennifer
Dear Mr. Hosseini, I have read both of your books and loved them. At 71, I have read a lot of books. I have been an avid reader all my life, thank God. Your two books have never left me as many others have. I saw the movie "The Kite Runner" yesterday and loved it. It and your books have changed my thinking about Afghanistan. I always thought it was such a beige country where no one, especially women, was happy. Not so.
What are you writing now? Is it something that will be out soon? Please keep us posted.
A fan - this is my first fan letter.

Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I have finished reading both 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and 'The Kite Runner' and it is hard for me to say which is my favorite.
You are truly a gifted story teller who captivates his readers through his characters. The pain and suffering of Mariam, the gift of love between Laila and Tariq, the loyalty of Hassan, the sorrow and pain of little Sohrab and the redemption of Amir, all convince me that we are nothing but spiritual beings here on earth to have human experiences and not human beings having spiritual experiences.
Even though your characters may be fiction, I am certain that they mirror in many many ways the tragic lives lead by many Afghans. I pray for each one of them individually and hope that their lives hereon taste the many wonders this world has to offer, just as many of your characters did in the Afghanistan under Zahir Shah. I also pray for those who have passed on. I pray that in the life after, there is happiness forever in paradise for them. If your characters are real I am certain in paradise, Mariam is united with her parents, Hassan is no Hazara but an equal to all and his wonderful character wins him nothing but admirers and friends. I pray that all those who suffered the brutality of the Taliban, have until eternity to rejoice in the love of the Almighty.
God bless you Khaled, my beautiful wife and I eagerly look forward to your next masterpiece.
Hello Khaled,
I did read your two books and I did learn to understand many feelings by the Afghanistan people in my street, from the beginning that they were coming here in Netherland I be a friend of the family but I did not understand what happens in Afghanistan. By reading your two books I think I can feel with them how they did live there and now I can try to understand what they will let me know, because they are not speaking well dutch but that will come.
Thank you for the way you write, I understand that it is also heavy for you to write what did happened and to stay neutral enough to stay alive.
Rob
Dear Khaled Hosseini,
I just finished reading "The Kite Runner" and was profoundly touched by the story of Amir, Hassan and the remaining characters; and of course, the tragedy of the war in your homeland. At times, it was difficult to separate the fiction from non-fiction - knowing that your novel could clearly have been written in first-hand events. Two of my sons have served in one tour in Afghanistan each with the Canadian Infantry, assisting the country's Army and Police forces to drive out the Taliban.
Thank you for showing the world what loving and peaceful people the Afghans truly are. I know it changed my opinion and perhaps even my trust of Islam and Muslims - although I would like to see more equality for women and less oppression. I can't wait to read "A Thousand Splendid Suns". :oD
What a wonderful book "A Thousand Splendid Suns".
You have done more to teach us about Afghanistan as any History book could, my perception has changed and I will be more tolerant of others because you have opened my eyes to the hardship and sorry we in the West cannot imagine , I did not think Canadian troops belonged there, I have changed my mind.
A great read it will be with my keeper pile , unforgettable , extraordinary .
Best wishes to you, with affection.

Hello Mr. Hosseini,
I have read both your books, and loved them both. I was deeply touched by the unconditional love between Mariam and Laila. The story of Hassan and Amir was also very touching.
When do you think you will be giving us the pleasure of reading another novel of yours?

Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I just finished reading your book, "A Thousand Splendid Suns" this morning and was deeply touched by it. I think this is one the best books that I have read and I'm sure it will always be my favorite book. Being a resident of Pakistan and being a girl of 17 years I could understand and in way relate to your book as Pakistan and Afghanistan are both Islamic countries and are closely related. Your writing has left an ever-lasting impact on me and it makes me want to reach out to all the women of the world who have been a victim of oppression in the hands of men.
I can't wait to read "The Kite Runner" and will be anxiously waiting for more books written by you.
I would also like to thank you for giving us such a marvelous book to read and for giving a voice to all the oppressed women.
Yours Sincerely,
Sania

Mr. Hosseini,
Not only did your two books inspire me to read (I read them both in record time.) but they have inspired me to write. I also grew up writing stories and poetry, and left them behind for the pursuit of traditional means of support. All the time that I was enthralled by the stories of life as a boy or girl growing up in Afghanistan, I was reminding myself that my own childhood might be just as interesting to someone else. I have no illusions of being in your league, but I plan to finish it, all the same.
The first book has taken forty years. Hopefully, the next one will take less time. I look forward to your next novel.
Hi Mr. Hosseini,
As an aspiring writer attempting to finish her first novel, I want you to know how much you have influenced me. It's hard to put it into words, but your novels are just brilliant storytelling. I think Isabel Allende put it best when she said, "This is one of those unforgettable stories that stay with you for years. All the great themes of literature and of life are the fabric of this extraordinary novel: love, honor, guilt, fear, redemption... It is so powerful that for a long time everything I read after seemed bland."
I have been experiencing the "bland" since finishing your novels. I will forever hope I can make readers turn the pages of my book like you have done for me.
Thank you,
L
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I've just finished reading your two books and I must tell that these are the most powerful books I have ever read in my life. I have been literally "stunned"... I just can't find the words to tell you how much I was moved by every episode, every scene, be it a scene when Sohrab cuts his veins (The Kite Runner), or when Laila wants to get rid of Rasheed's baby but can't because of her mother instinct (A Thousand Splendid Suns). One of the most compelling scenes is the scene when Mariam from 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' meets her death. It is a true manifestation of the beauty of her soul, determination to die for the safety of those people who are very dear to her but most importantly to prove to herself that she is not a harami. I guess she finally reached happiness when she died... I cried and cried...
You raise quite common themes in your books: love, betrayal, forgiveness, revenge, etc. but you do it so powerfully that one can hardly stay indifferent.
Please accept my deepest gratitude for giving me the opportunity to spend several days with the characters of your books, live their lives, feel their pain...
Looking forward to reading your new novels.
Kind regards,
Gulnara

Mr. Hosseini,
You have ruined every book that comes next for me. They are simply not "The Kite Runner". I waited and waited for the next novel and read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" in a 10 hour car trip to Canada. The writing is beyond anything I have found, but the message and emotions that your books contain transcend stories. I found such beautiful poetry in the culture of Afghanistan and have a new appreciation and interest in these people who struggle for their freedom every day. I have found your website today as I research ways to help Afghan and Pakistani women in education for a Master's class for teachers and counselors about Cultural diversity. In some ways, this site has become a global community center. If we can unite around our love for your work, imagine what could happen next? Thank you for demonstrating that we should live every day as if it were our final performance.
With Sincere gratitude,
Jennifer,

Dear Mr Hosseini,
Congratulations on such an incredible achievement. Yes, I loved the books and could not stop crying!
I cannot wait for the next book and I would love to read a collection of your short stories. Have you considered this?
Kind Regards
Nouria
Dear Mr Hosseini,
Thank you so much for writing this book, for giving us light to the situation and a voice to the women. I am sure it has left me impacted and changed. Thank you so much. God Bless you in all you do and I look forward to your future novels.

hello Mr. Hosseini
You are a remarkable story-teller.your style is simple yet effective. Both your books are extraordinary. Me and my friends are eagerly awaiting your next book.
Keep up the good work and wish you all the best.
Please try to visit India sometime. You have an amazing fan base here.
Thanks!
Dear Dr Hosseini,
Thank you for your books. I haven't been touched for so long for a long time in 2 different stories by a same author.
I am glad of the day I picked up "The Kite Runner" and then of course, "A Thousand Splendid Suns". They are both splendid, speechless and beautiful.
Sincerely,
See Yiing
Mr. Hosseini,
I have read both "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns". After reading the first few pages of "The Kite Runner", I was immediately hooked. What a great storyteller you are and at the same time, enlightening the readers of the plight of Afghanistan. I am a fan for life and can't wait for your next book.

I've just finished reading "The Kite Runner"...I read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" first....
"The Kite Runner" was such a beautiful, heartbreaking story...I have been interested in Afghanistan for a while and your stories brought Kabul and the plight of the Afghani people to life for me....
Thank you....words fail me....such beautiful writing...
P.S I just watched "The Kite Runner" film as well...
When does your next book come out?
Dear Dr. Hosseini,
My son just gave me your books, "The Kite Runner", which I have just finished, and "A Thousand Splendid Suns" which I am about to start. I cannot believe how beautiful this book is. Your masterful use of the language envelops the reader and allows him/her to be pulled through the story. And while very emotional to read, the story is absolutely wonderful. It should be required reading for all of us in the West, who think we understand what is happening in Afghanistan, and what has happened in the past. Your book gave me some insight into a culture that can be so loving and forgiving, but can also be so cruel.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Two of the best books I have ever read. Have just seen "The Kite Runner" on DVD. Can not wait to see "A Thousand Splendid Suns" on DVD
best wishes
lee
I read both books this week and I can't get the characters out of my mind. Never have I been so affected by the books I have read. So many disturbing and painful experiences. It has opened my eyes to the suffering of others that I am so sheltered from. I am so grateful that you have helped me to see more clearly those who live a much different life. I pray that things will get better soon.
Dear Khaled,
Thank you so much for "A Thousand Splendid Suns", it shook me awake and made me realize how strong Afghan women are. They survive things that many others could not. You showed me that a country's future really lies in the hands of women. I have great respect for the people of Afghanistan, and especially its women, who suffered so greatly for such a long time, and who still have the strength to love, and fight for a better future.
No other book has made me realize how trivial my daily problems are, and I am now looking for a way to help.
I don't really like reading books a lot but you are the only author whose book I read in 2days. I read "The Kite Runner" and saw the movie. I also read "A Thousand Splendid Suns". both of these books were just amazing, beautiful, splendid and so touching.thank u so much for writing them and I cant wait 4 ur next book 2 come out.

Dear Mr Hosseini,
The last time I finished a book was at least 10 years back when I was forced to read literature text for exams.
This time I'm shocked that I finished both of your books each within 4 days. Both your books have touched me deeply, making me realize that Afghan people share the same dreams, hopes and feelings like everyone else.It is just so unfortunate that they have to undergo through so much persecution due to political agendas.
I am grateful that I lead a comfortable and troubled-free life as compared to the protagonists in your books. It has made me think twice when I want to whine over trivial matters.
Thank you,for rekindling my interest in reading.

Respected Sir
There are not enough adjectives in any language that can describe the gamut of emotions I experienced reading "The Kite Runner". Never have I ever become so involved with the characters of a fiction that made me feel their every emotion. Your gift of the word enters our hearts and minds to the realities of every humans constant battle for survival. The thrill of power at the expense of others, guilt, conscience, fear, self contempt, love, forgiveness, peace...all these and many other complexities that define us. Your ability to allow your readers to experience their personal epiphanies through the characters of the book is what makes the book unforgettable. Thank you for this comment page. It facilitates the process of debriefing. Like my 14 year old daughter expressed ''It's DEEP'' - mum...you have to read it!!! May Allah continue blessing your talent and gift and may your writing be a means for every one of us to realize that despite our cultural, religious, racial and other complex diversities, we are but one and the same!! With Thanks
Dear Khaled,
I just finished reading over the last two weeks both "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Your work is beyond brilliant! The one resounding theme that I have found in both your novels is COURAGE. The courage to do what is right when it is easier to do wrong, the courage to hope and to love in the midst of hate and despair and mostly the courage to live in the most heartbreaking of conditions, with nothing but memories of happier times serving as one's lifeline. Your writing has inspired me and I'm sure many others to have a more reflective outlook on life and the legacy that we shall leave for future generations based on our current and often reckless choices. I look forward to many more of your inspirational stories for you are one of the few who are making a difference.
Kindest regards,
Jessica.
Mr. Hosseini,
As I am three-fourths into your book "A Thousand Splendid Suns", I wanted to put the book down for a second and take the moment to write you and just say thanks. The book is extremely relatable to my life and truly has me captivated and in tears. It makes me look at my life's hardships and then look at the characters and know that someday my life may turn around for the better, find a true love like Tariq or a great friend like Mariam. Thanks again.
Hi Dr. Hosseini!
In these past few days, I've read both your books. They are absolutely amazing! I actually cried in them, which is a first for me, and I'm also not much of a reader, but I couldn't let go of your books. The way you write is just mesmerizing and the twists add so much more intrigue. Also, your books are different books then from what I usually read. All the Muslim culture and the Muslim names (like Hassan) makes it more interesting and I feel more connected to the characters. I have to ask, when is your next book coming out?? I'm dying for more!
In the past month I have read both "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns", back to back. Mr. Hosseini, you are such a talented, gifted writer, you have helped me to rekindle my own thirst for writing. You have also helped to educate me about Afghan people, their way of life, and why they live differently then Americans do. You see, after 911, I was deeply disturbed by the actions of the terrorists, and unfortunately, as many people did, I just related the actions of the Taliban and Al Qaeda to all people of middle eastern decent. I knew that this was probably wrong, as I am a somewhat educated, intelligent person, but I was so angry that I just didn't care. Your books have inspired me to be educated before I make such bold assumptions about people, I truly owe you, and all other Afghans, and Iraqis a heartfelt apology, ethnic profiling is a dangerous thing these days, and I realize that my thoughts were disrespectful, uneducated and just plain stupid. While there are bad people of your race, there are just as many of my race, I am sorry. Thank you for helping me to open my eyes, your books truly had a wonderful impact on my life. Please write another book soon!
Your books are amazing! Even though months have passed since I read them - they are still on my mind. Thinking of them make me upset and happy at the same time. I really do hope you will write more books that will touch me as these ones.
Good luck with everything.
Best,
Malin, Stockholm (Sweden)
Hi Mr.Hosseini,
The book is the most best book I've ever read I'm 13 and I've never been in Afghanistan but after reading your book it opened my eyes. When I tell my mom about an event that happened in Afghanistan that she didn't tell me she asks me where I learned it and I always say from dear Mr.Hosseini. I'm looking forward for more of Mr.Hosseini's book.
May Allah be with you and help you Mr.Hosseini
You are now my most favourite author of all time!(next to Harper Lee!) Your words wash over me and I am taken to a new level of understanding. Loved "The Kite Runner". I am about to finish "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and I am very reluctant to do so,as I want the book to go and on. I'm eagerly awaiting your next piece of brilliance....do we have to wait for long?
Dear Khaled
Thank you for "A Thousand Splendid Suns!" I read it in a day and cannot wait to start it again. I thought that I was reliably informed on Afghanistan, your book made me so fond of the real people and broken hearted at their plight. As an Australian in the safety of this country it is hard for us to comprehend such ongoing tragedy, and frustrating to be so small as not to be able to make any difference. Please keep up your action on their behalf as you have a loud voice and it matters greatly.
Yours sincerely Rhonda Addison.

Dear Khaled,
i just finished reading your "A Thousand Splendid Suns". The last part of the story was absolutely brilliant. the characters specially Laila and Mariam"s have been woven beautifully. "The Kite Runner" was great, this one greater and now I am waiting for the greatest of yours.. love you for all that you are doing to uplift the downtrodden in Afghanistan.god bless you
I think that the movie "A Thousand Splendid Suns" should be like "The Kite Runner", in english.
I am curious, when is your next book going to come out, and what is it going to be about?
You are the best. I'm learning English now, and I read my first book, that was "The Kite Runner", the next day I bought your second book. You encourage me to continue reading English books, thank you
Thank you seems insignificant for what I just finished listening to this afternoon. It was lovely, heart wrenching and captivating. I pray that you may return one day to see a new and changed Afghanistan. I will begin "The Kite Runner" soon. Thank you very much.
Dear Khaled,
The book is heart breaking...........hopes being shattered.......
I don't have words to describe how I felt when I read... I was moved myriads of times.....
I thought something bad would happen to Laila at the end as well but...thank god you let her live..
This is by far the best book I have gone through.....
I hope the movie to be as good as the book....
Are you working for your next launch????

Dear Khaled
I am really not a big reader, have never been. I would always read 20 pages and get restless. Something always comes along that I need to do.. I'm English, I live in Holland and wanted an English language book from the USA store here in The Hague for my vacation in Turkey..
For the first time ever, "A Thousand Splendid Suns" totally and completely sucked me up, I felt like I was IN the book watching it. I got so angry sometimes that I would curse characters and slam the book shut, so sad that I had to stop and think about my own life and how LUCKY I am and so nervous as the book was finishing thinking - - - - What the hell will I read now!? I have just bought "The Kite Runner" and feel the same way!
You are the only writer for me!
BRAVO!

Just completed reading your second book. Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed, not only the story, but your style of writing...it really makes you think you are witnessing what you're reading! I couldn't put the books down without reading late in to the night. I applaud your work...thanks for telling us about Afghanistan.
May God Bless you and your family!
Dear Mr Hosseini, I have just finished "The Kite Runner", watched the film and now I am reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Both of your books really touched me, it would touch anybody's soul. You write in a very special way, and the films are not able to give the same impact. It will me almost impossible to project the kind impact your writing style has on the readers. I wish you good luck and am awaiting your next venture. "A Thousand Splendid Suns" seems to be even better than "The Kite Runner". Good Luck!!
I love your first book "The Kite Runner" so much, and I can remember the feeling when I read it for the first time clearly.I read so many books before, but I can not imagine that someone can write such a moving story with the sentence of no embellishment. "A Thousand Splendid Suns" is also a beautiful and impressive book.Your books can keep its flavor even after reading for thousands times.Wish your next work!
Hello!I'm a Chinese reader.I'm very happy that I can read your books. They are really wonderful.I've learned something from your books. Now,I understand that we should to treasure our life.
Thank you very much,Hosseini.
A huge fan of "The Kite Runner", I snatched up "A Thousand Splendid Suns" the minute it came out and was beyond amazed at your writing talent and story-telling ability. I consider myself a voracious reader and have to say that your latest book is probably one of my all-time favorites, if not at the top of the list. I want to emphasize that it was your understanding of your female protagonists and their plights that made the book so touching and eye-opening. I have lent my copy out many times and have yet to find a woman reader who has not been deeply touched by the women's stories. Please keep up the incredible work, both that of writing amazing stories and of opening the eyes of the world to the injustices and horrors still present in modern day Afghanistan. I pray that someday the women, men and children of that great country will have the freedoms that we Americans enjoy. Thank you for writing modern day classics!
Loved! Loved! Loved! both "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns.” I just finished both books and am highly recommending it to others. Your style of writing captivated my heart; I now have a little education of Afghanistan and an interest of its history.
Dear Doctor Hosseini,
Thank you for telling such rich, moving and inspiring stories. The characters live in my heart as I have read both 'The Kite Runner" and now "A Thousand Splendid Suns"
Sometimes books touch us in a very special way and your gift for story telling and writing is like that.
Thank you too for the insights into the history and life of Afghanistan and its people, for the postscript of your speech and for the opportunity to tell you how much the books mean to me.
I wish you well with your work with the UN Refugee Agency and look forward with interest to following your recommended reading.
You have reminded me again of the mystery of being born in Australia.
Salam,
I wanted to take this chance to thank you from the bottom of my heart. As a Muslim women reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' , it has truly inspired me in so many ways I have never thought it would , it made me open my eyes to things I neglected , and to treasure my life and most importantly " Al-Sabur" to wait and someday Allah will gift you and bless you,,

Greetings from the Middle East, particularly from the Sultanate of Oman!
I have read both your novels and I must say, I couldn't put them down! They have been captivating and I was an addict. The plots are out of this world. The characters were inspiring. There were some sad parts, however the good always prevailed.
I'm so thrilled that 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' is coming out in film version! I can't wait.
Wish you all the best and may Allah grant you health and success. Ameen.
Dear Mr Hosseini,

Dear Khaled
I loved reading your two novels. Both were very beautiful and they touched my heart and the characters really inspired me. I've never read something so beautiful and inspiring. The two stories have taught me a lot. I'm just getting too short of words and I can not tell you how much I loved them.
I'm waiting for your next book, please give me the update for it.
Thanks.
Dear Mr. Hosseini
I read both of your books in a weekend and I was left wanting more. I love your descriptions, your dialog is crisp and real, the plot is logical even though things happen under unbelievable circumstances.
I am looking forward to reading more of you. Please don`t take too long.
Best regards,
Mariflor Blaser
Dear Sir,
It had been a very long time since i had laid my hands on any book....and I can't explain how lucky I feel to have filled the reading gap of so many years with this book.I really can't put into words the stir your story created in my heart.every character was so real and touching and I have already asked my mother and any friend who hasn't read it to go thru it immediately. Thanks for letting us know so beautifully the sense and sensibilities of a nation very less known.
May God bless the many Mariams and Lailas....
Nikita
Dear Khaled,
Your books have done for me what literature is rarely capable of doing. You have an immensely talented imagination and story telling ability. Your words tell a story of these characters on the one hand, but bare with honesty the insides of every human being.
The world today needs talent like yours to help us realize that nations apart, we are all the same inside.
I sincerely thank you.
-Tazeen Qudsi
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I just finished "A Thousand Splendid Suns." and will start "The Kite Runner" soon. What an incredibly marvelous novel. At times I was angry at you for having put Mariam and Laila through so much hell. I was fervently hoping they would be able to escape successfully, and every time Laila hit Rasheed back, I would be sadistically happy. I could imagine them both in their blue burkhas, and could picture obedient Aziza and the spoiled brat Zalmai. I am not sure I want to see the movie though, because movies inspired from books are always distorted. I will watch it though - just to be able to forever paint a face to Laila, Tariq and Mariam.
Thank you for this masterpiece.
Dear Khaled Hosseini
I have read both your books and think they are amazing. Your description is so vivid, your characters are truly inspirational and courageous, your plots are moving and believable. I have the pleasure of teaching 'The Kite Runner' to my sixth form A level students and I can't wait.
Kind regards
Nazia
Hi Khaled,
I have just finished reading 'The Kite Runner' having already read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. Both are amazing reads and I felt bereft after finishing them. Please tell me you are writing again, I am looking forward to your next book already?! You have firmly established yourself as one of my favourite authors, I cannot get enough of your writing!
Best Regards,
Victoria Simpson
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, and THANK YOU again for "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns." Truly, in all my life, I've never read a book that touched me as deeply as those you have written. The raw emotion I felt from the characters was like no other. I not only cried but literally sobbed and had to put both books down at one point or another. Not to worry, you more than succeeded in writing from a woman's perspective in "Splendid Suns." It's been about a year now since I've read your books, and although some have been quite good, nothing else I've read can hold a candle to these great works of art! What an extraordinary storyteller you are. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to not only read but be educated by your books. Best of luck and please keep writing!!
Jeanne
Dear Mr. Hosseini
I just finished reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' I finished 'The Kite Runner' a few days ago. I am somewhat speechless right now. I have to say these were by far my favorite books ever. Not only is the writing beautiful and poetic but I like the way you end each chapter not really giving a hint to what will happen next.
I grew up in New York City and was exposed to many cultures and religions but I have never known any one from the Middle East. What a great lesson it was learning not only all of our differences but more importantly in how many ways people are the same.
I look forward to your next book but please take your time and write with the love and care you obviously put into your last two books
Thank you,
Lorene Ramirez
Salam Mr. Hosseini
I just want to say that I greatly enjoy your books and can say that they are one of my favourite reads. As a Pashtun girl I am reminded a lot of what my life would or could be like, if I were to face situations like those of others in the book. For this and many other reasons I enjoy your books very much; they are filled with reality. So please, continue writing and I shall continue reading.
Also, I am wondering about the casting information for the movie and please, if you do find out could you tell me or post it on your blog with details about the movie.

Mr. Hosseini,
Although both your books made me feel sad, I am craving for your forthcoming books. You are brilliant on how you connect facts and your story. You made the story like happening in my imagination. I would like to thank you for giving us a bit of Afghanistan history and its people. From your novels, I know now how nice people of Afghanistan, your country and your culture. I wish that the suffering of your people will be alleviated especially the children. More power to you and your people. Thanks for your good work.
Hi Khaled,
I have just finished reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' - and all I can think of is Laila, Tariq and Mariam, and the fortunes and misfortunes of their lives.
I would just like to join my voice to the other people on here (and indeed the ones who have not found this website) to say thank you.
I was traveling to work today, to meet a client, on a train from London to Warrington, and tears were rolling down my face as I turned each page... a mixture of sadness, happiness and comfort, and reflections on my own life.
A heartfelt thank-you.
Big hug,
Rogerio
Hello Mr. Hosseini,
It was the 1984 when I was in class 8, in India when I wrote my first story of about 30 odd pages. I read it a thousand times, wished someone read it as well from the family but they never did so I had to trash it. Three days ago, I read your inspirational book, 'The Kite Runner'. Spectacular, what else can I say. I read it in just over two days (I am slow reader, I know!!) after which I had to start with 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. I am halfway into the book right now. Just 'Splendid'. Another work of brilliance from our sub-continent. I really enjoy the Farsi words in the novels as we also use them in India but until now I did not know the origins of those words. Brilliant!!
'The Kite Runner' Inspired me to resume writing and if any good, sharing it.
Thank you so much!!
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I bought 2 books at Glasgow airport just before I went on holiday. I read one of the books' Vanishing Acts' in between sightseeing, and exploring. I started to read the 2nd book, your book 'The Kite Runner' yesterday on the return journey and felt almost overwhelmed and such joy and sadness as I read. The story flows in a way that is hard to describe, so simple yet so skilled. I have told my son about the book and will pass it too him when we next meet up.( He has just moved to Edinburgh as a student at Napier University). I can't wait until Saturday when I will go into Glasgow city centre and buy 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. Please keep writing and best wishes.
Mary
I can't remember the last time I was so moved and touched by a story as I was by "The Kite Runner". Thank You Mr. Hosseini.
Salaam Khaled Jan Hosseini,
it pleases me a lot to see that you have so many fans, I love reading their comments and the great joy and appreciation they show towards your work.
I am very eager to see 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' on the big screen, I hope that the film does justice to your great work! Please keep writing, you have left us thirsty for more!
Best regards!
Your fan, Forough.
Dear Khaled
I would really like to thank you for your master piece "A Thousand Splendid Suns." It's a splendid mixture of history and humanities. If all history books clone your style, there will be certainly less ignorants in the world. I was so dazzled by the book that I could not stop reading and I took two days off just to "savor" the book. I even promised it to at least - persons so far. Though written by a man, it really depicted the writer's knowledge about the female world and even his open and feminist perspective. Reading the book , I often wondered about the writer's educational profile.
Hela from Tunisia
I loved both of your books and am anticipating any future books. Your writing is beautiful even with the terrible events it describes. I just hope that 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' translates to film better than the 'The Kite Runner' did. I felt that the film did not do any justice to the book and if I hadn't read the book I would have been totally lost in the background of the characters. The development of characters before getting into the storyline was poor. I hope that you can oversee the production of this movie to make it as great as the book. Best Wishes.
Adrienne
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I just finished watching 'The Kite Runner' on T.V. 10 minutes ago. I read the book when it first came out and your second book 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. Is there any chance that this will become a movie as well? I wanted to let you know that although I read these books over a year/years ago they are ones that I still remember and recommend to other people as a "must read". You have a truly remarkable talent. Thank you. I hope there is another book in the works, and eagerly await for it.
Thank you for the amazing gift of sharing your talent on paper.
Sincerely,
Natalie Lawson,

Dear Khaled Hosseini,
I would like to tell you that I have not read any book like 'The Kite Runner" before. There is a classic, I can not decline it, but your books are from "must read" series.
Recently, I had a chance to find your second book "A Thousand Splendid Suns", and it is also perfect.
Please, write books, because you can do it very well!
Azad
I have read your book 'The Kite Runner' and was moved. Your second book 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' made me weep. I bought it at the Nizamuddin Rly station in the afternoon while boarding a train and did not keep it down till I completed reading the next morning 4.30 am.It was gripping, poetic and full of surprises! You are certainly a master story teller! Friends of mine work in Afghanistan for the World Bank and have described the situation there. It can only take the guts of a Mariam or Laila to build a new Afghanistan. Hail Woman Power! To you a big thank you. Keep writing and more power to your pen. God Bless!

I have never read a whole book in my entire life until 9th grade. When I first got this book I just wanted to keep reading I never wanted to put it down. Now I am reading a lot cause of your book. I luv to read now. I can't wait until the movie.
The book was really good it made me cry. Luv this book.
p.s thanks again !!! sincerely lauren
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
Thank you a world for your book "A Thousand Splendid Suns", I find no words to express you my entire gratitude for this sensitive and the most beautiful life story that touches up to the bottom of your heart.
I am originally from Turkmenistan and in fact live just across the border from Afghanistan and I am so much ashamed now upon finishing reading this book, how little and almost nothing I knew about Afghanistan during the periods of war and reintegration process: thats amazing how detailed you provided the description that is both very informative and at the same time just crashes your heart!
I liked 'The Kite Runner' a lot, but 'AThousand Splendid Suns' I liked much more. I am gender-biased and that is why this story [even if its all fictional] has grasped me entirely, I never teared while reading the book, this was the first one that squeezed my heart...
I noticed that these few months since I've read both books I keep recommending all my friends to read and get acquainted with Mr Hosseini's world! Its all worth of that!
Thank you so much for these marvelous two books we [readers] enjoyed with all our appreciation and anxiety, please keep writing, I am waiting for new books of yours to come and to explore another marvelous stories that touches your heart, changes your life, impacts your vision...
My favourite lines are from that verse by Saib-e-Tabrizi:
One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs,
Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.....
Sincerely Yours,

I am almost done with 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. I haven't enjoyed reading this much for a while. When I was reading 'The Kite Runner' I didn't want it to end. My heart goes out to the people of Afghanistan. God be with them.
Salaam, Dr. Hosseini,
I loved both of your books, 'The Kite Runner' and 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. They are my two favorite books- I have told everyone I knew to read them, and I have just read it for (what seems like) the 14th time. Hope to read your 3rd book soon!
Tashakoor, :-)
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I just finished reading your book. It's awesome and touched my heart. To be honest, It made me respect Afghans more than ever and changed my opinion about Afghanistan all together. You made all people around the world pay more attention to a country called Afghanistan, you are a great man and your people should be proud of you.
Waiting for your new novel,

Couldn't put 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' down! Read it in one sitting whilst ill in bed. It was the best read for along time and like so many other people I have been inspired to read more, find out more about what is happening in Afghanistan and thank God for the life I have. You are a remarkable storyteller and teacher.
Dear Khaled
I just wanted to thank you for writing such wonderful books. Both 'The Kite Runner' and 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' moved me deeply - and when my wife (who normally takes several months to persevere with a book !)witnessed the emotions I had whilst reading them, she realized this must be something special, and read both books in 4 days as I did. You truly have a great gift, and we both look forward to your next work.
Kindest regards
John Cannon
Dear Khaled,
I just finished "A Thousand Splendid Suns" today. It is the best book that I can remember reading. It was recommended to me by a fellow co-worker, and now I tell all my friends and family about it.
Thank you for sharing your amazing story telling talents to the world!
Peace,
Erica Alves
THANK YOU-To You, A Thousand Time Over.
It seems like I am always reading your novels on vacation, and despite being in Vegas or Mexico, I spend most of my time there reading. I can't put you novels down. 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' is a true masterpiece and I have suggested it to everyone!!! I am dying to know when you are planning to release another novel.
Wow, I don't know what to say. I have read 'The Kite Runner' and just finished 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. It is so easy to watch Afghans on the news and not understand what they go through.Thank you for putting their lives in perspective. I am both appalled by the regimes they have had to live through and touched at the strength and determination that they have.I pray that someday they will overcome what they have been through and find a sense of peace. As an American it is shocking the things ( rights ) that we so easily take for granted. If we would take all the energy that we put into petty things such as whether we say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays we could work together and use that energy to help the rest of the world because in the end regardless what religion or race we are, we are all humans that need to help each other. I for one will be looking into ways to help
What is there to say about the wonderful world writing and reading! I truly felt I was in the book each and every chapter. Keep up the good work.
Dear Mister Hosseini
'The Kite Runner' already took my breath away, but 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' did something more to me, I honestly cried my eyes out reading the last chapters.
Thank you so much for bringing the Afghanistan I wanted to know nothing about to life. It has changed my life. More than you know.
Sincerely yours
Marie
I hate reading I never find interest in hardly any book however 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' was so good that I could just read it over and over again.... I hope you have more books like this one...It is by far my favorite book...
Dear Mr Hosseini
I have just finished 'The Kite Runner' and recently read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns', both of which are the best books I have ever read! I want to say so much about these books I am struggling to find the right words! You are a truly wonderful writer, I love your style of writing, you never want your books to end, you feel like you can go on reading them forever. I found both stories extremely powerful in so many ways, they gave me such an eye opening insight into the kinds of lives that no-one should ever have to lead. Parts of each book made me sob with such sadness but I couldn't put them down, thank you for writing them so brilliantly.
Please, please keep writing, I am so looking forward to your next novel.
Lisa Garlick
I can't tell you how Mariam and Laila have stuck with me. I've been thinking about them for days after finishing"A Thousand Splendid Suns' and I am reminded of the Afghan refugee children that I used to see at our local library some evenings - how little I knew of their story! I don't know if I could find a story I like better than this one. You've captured the human spirit amazingly. Mariam is my hero.
I am a 16 year old from Kansas and for my British literature class I read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' this book is by far the best book I have ever read in my life. The way you write with such compassion and love just blows me away. I felt right there reading the book. 'The Kite Runner' is also a classic. You have just changed my view of Afghanistan and have captured a big part of my heart, thank you!
Man, I am from Brazil and I do swear that your two books are the best books I have ever read. I loved them so much. I'd like to tell you that you are my favorite writer. I hope you read my comment. :) Bye.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!! I just finished reading, "A Thousand Splendid Suns". I could not put the book down, I didn't want to read more because I knew the book was coming to an end, I didn't want the story to end. I wanted to know if Laila Jo had a boy or a girl, how much money did Jalil leave, did the orphanage ever get finished???? So many questions! Your books can capture any type of reader, you are the most talented writer I have ever read. You have touched my heart in ways that I didn't know existed! Thank you soooooo much and looking forward to the next one!
May God bless you and your family,
Michelle
I really enjoyed your book 'The Kite Runner'. It makes you think about what in life is determined due to ones actions or the general course of ones destiny. It was very moving that Amir goes back to Afghanistan and adopts Hassan's son. I also thought it was sad that Amir had such a troubled relationship with his father. Amir wants to be like him yet feels he lives in his shadow. At the end of the book I feel he finds his own identity by saving Hassan's son and gains redemption (maybe I am wrong?) The same can be said for 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. It is so sad that Mariam does not get to live out her life in the way she might have wished, being tied in a loveless marriage to Rasheed. But she is still a great person and is my favourite character in the book.
Please write more books!!! Your books are really meaningful plus I really enjoy reading about Afghanistan and it's culture. I would love to learn more about it. Thank you.
Your writing is beyond wonderful! There are simply no words to describe it. I read 'The Kite Runner' and I love it. I just finished reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and like I said there are no words to describe it. I bet people are annoyed of me because I tell them about the book when ever I get the chance. It made me realize that there is more to Afghanistan then the news reports we see on TV and I thank you for that.
Eagerly awaiting for your next book,
Arianna Salgado
Khaled,
I have to say that you are truly the most gifted writer I have ever come across in my life, and I have read a lot of books. 'The Kite Runner' is nothing like I have ever read. It touched me so deeply and I cried for days after I read the book, and saw the film. I never knew such stories like that could be written as beautifully as you have put it. Thank you for being so amazing and inspirational to me.
Salaam Dr. Khaled Hosseini
I was recommended by my friend 2 months ago to read 'The Kite Runner'. Although I have heard of it 2 years ago, I had never read it. I was so touched by the book and I cried so many times while reading. Your words are so powerful and always strike the right emotional chord.
Then I immediately read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. Once again, I was so moved and I cried through and through.
After reading your books, I really felt ashamed of myself because there are times when I complain about my life and job. Your books made me realize that there are other people in the world who go through much more than I do. I feel like I have learned to value what I have and try to help of those less fortunate people.
I really want to thank you for your books. They have made a big difference in my life. You are mashallah a very talented and inspirational writer. I am looking forward to more of your novels inshallah.

Salaam Mr. Khaled Hosseini,
I would like to say how much thankful to Allah I am for giving us a writer like you. You bring pride to Afghans (I am half-Afghan half-Filipino), as well as giving justice to the beauty that once took place in Afghanistan. It is now hard to see Afghanistan's beauty amidst the ruins and the crisis that has shadowed it.
Because of your books, you have opened the eyes of those people blinded by what they see in the news... you also opened the eyes of those who already know Afghan culture, but need to know more to fully appreciate it. Of course, your storytelling should be commended as well. I'm sure you have heard this a lot of times before, but you're amazing!
Tashakoor, agha. More power to you and God bless! Can't wait for your next work.
I have read both of your books and I found them to be very heart wrenching stories. The stories had realize me about the importance for me as a Muslim and as a Malaysian to keep my country in peace.
Dear Khaled Hosseini,
I have written a message already but I feel like writing another! I have been thinking about your books over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. I have really been thinking about the deep suffering experienced by the characters in your books. How do they find the will to go on? How does anyone find the will to go on after all this pain? I have realised myself that life does not always give you what you thought would happen, but I believe you learn from everything and can find goodness and happiness in your life. The strength, courage and sheer goodness of Mariam and Laila really made me cry. They suffer so much and they keep on going! It is the sheer goodness and grace of spirit that we must hold onto in times of suffering and strife. We must remember who we are and not let ourselves go for anyone. Men and women are different, but we are all equal and we all have different talents immaterial of gender. I have also really realised about what we do impacts others. If Rasheed had not lied about Tariq to Laila, how different her life might have been?....
It is so good to see people like your books as much as myself! I only heard one person I know talk about it and now I see there are 100000s who think the same!! There is not much I can say that other people haven't said, but I hope you might read this message! I am sure I will see many many more books published by you in the future. Read them, I will!
Salaam DR. Hosseini,
I hope you get a chance to ready my message. I just wanted to say thank you for bring the true story of Afghan people on the surface. You are a gift from Allah to us Afghans. I just got done reading your 2nd book and I'm waiting for your next book. DR. Jo, thanks for taking me back to my childhood and make me realize that I belong to most beautiful country and people on this earth.
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I just finished "A Thousand Splendid Suns" last evening. The quaking of my body has stopped; the knot in my stomach relaxed; and my tears have dried. But, indeed, I am a changed person. The unspeakable crimes against women, children, and the Afghan culture affected me to my very core. As an American, I'm ashamed that our media have been so scant in reporting these atrocities. Painful as it was, I appreciate having my eyes opened and pray that your books promote enough awareness that the world moves away from a culture of tolerance of such things. I, for one, will be talking about this book for a long time and will jump at any opportunity to help.
God bless you for your work.
Nancy
A thousand thank you's for your masterful story telling. I began "The Kite Runner" four days ago and finished it in three nights. What a gift you have. And to think you began with a biology major! I LOVE historical novels and "The Kite Runner" was one I couldn't put down. I also now know so much more than I did about the culture--the people--the trials and tribulations endured by the Afghan people. I fell in love with Hassan and Amir and through many tears, am a better person for having read your humble powerful book. I cannot wait to get into "A Thousand Splendid Suns" though I know it'll be a sad read. Oh, that humankind could simply love, love, love one another, and not have this class thing. I'm 72 years of age, a mother, wife, and caregiver. I yearn for peace and justice in this world. It is obvious that you do too. God bless you for all you do. I'm still reading your website. Thank you. Keep on writing and advocating for the Afghan people.
Appreciatively,
Barbara Bartholomew, Port Charlotte FL
After reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns', I cried for days. Although of course I was aware to a certain extent, I couldn't believe the degree to which I was blissfully unaware of what Afghans have gone through, especially women. Mr.Hosseini has done such a tremendous service to his country by telling the world in the most personal way possible about the plight of Afghans, as simply watching the news does not often humanize this. I couldn't put the book down and it made me ashamed of myself for worrying about the little things. Although Mariam and Laila are fictional I am sure you could find many stories close to theirs in Afghanistan. If the world followed everything in moderation, including religion, it would probably be a better place.
Dear Mr. Khaled Hosseini,
I have read both your books - definitely my best reads ever!
I have also seen the movie "The Kite Runner" - and loved it.
Congratulations on your work - you are making a huge difference in educating the world about Afghanistan as well as helping with rebuilding the society.
I am eagerly awaiting your next book and in the meantime will check out some of your recommended readings.
Kind Regards,
ESP
I recently read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and it was absolutely fabulous!! Can't wait for the movie!!
Sir,
I have read both of your books and just watched the movie version of 'The Kite Runner'. Your amazing story writing had me hooked on page 1 of both books and I believe that your books are literary masterpieces.
Living all my (sheltered) life in Canada, I have never had any interest whatsoever in the complex and very different world of the middle east. Your books have opened my eyes as to the plight of the Afghans and women in Afghanistan in particular. I have developed both an understanding and sympathy for the tragic events that occur in the lives of people there that just don't happen here.
Thanks again,
Wendy - Canada
Dear Khaled Hosseini,
These stories you write are the best I have read in a long long time. So gripping, so sad. Stories that you do not get out of your head. The way you write is just simply beautiful! Thank you! Looking forward to more of your wonderful writing,
Kind regards

'A Thousand Splendid Suns' is the best book I have ever read. I just could not put the book away and I keep thinking of Laila AND Tariq and their love to each other. That makes my heart to cry. I wonder if we ever can find a true love like that here in this world.
And thank you for letting the world know what some of us women are going through in life.
Your two books will follow me through life and I will never forget about them because they have touched me in a so special way.
You are amazing Khaled!
Can't wait to see the movie to your second book.
'The Kite Runner' was ..wow I don't know what to say ..there are no words.
God Bless You and everyone you love.

Hi Khaled, I recently read 'A Thousand Splendid Sun's, which I literally finished in 1 day. I could not stop reading the book, after a chapter would end I thought I would stop and read some other time, but I was sooo tempted to keep reading, I swear I have never read a book like this. Its the best book I have ever read, I cried so many times when I was reading this book, you write with sooo much compassion and it touches everyone who reads it..You have amazing talent, 'Im looking forward to your next work..Thank you for writing such great stories that touched sooo many people...Your the best writer ever!!!!!!!!
Dear Mr. Hosseini
Your books, 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and 'The Kite Runner' truly touched me in a way I never thought any story could. My parents are both from Kandahar, but I was born and raised in America. My dad, in particular, would always tell me about his childhood in Afghanistan and he also told me a lot about the war. Luckily, they left before it got too bad. I even visited my moms family in Afghanistan a few years ago. Even then I didn't feel like I actually understood the depth of the situation there until I read your books. I finished reading 'The Kite Runner' in 2 days, and shortly after read your second book. I explained each story to my parents and that opened up many more stories from their past. When I was younger, one of my favorite things to do was to read, but I quickly grew out of that. I've found my passion for reading again through your books. Thank you so much for giving me a better understanding of what my parents grew up around.
Susan
PS. I cant wait for 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' to become a movie, I know it will not be anywhere near as good as the book, but I'm looking forward to it!
Hello Mr.Hosseini,
When I read 'The Kite Runner', I couldn't imagine a better book than that but you didn't fail to deliver.'A Thousand Splendid Suns' is a wonderful read. The story is beautiful and tragic at the same time.
I just love it............
Dear Mr Hosseini
I would like to commend you on the success of "A Thousand Splendid Suns". It is a true masterpiece. I have never felt more emotion reading a novel. The closest I have ever come is from reading the final chapter of the 'His Dark Materials Collection' by Philip Pullman. I was overcome with a broken heart then, but this book has ripped my heart and broken it into a thousand pieces. I don't think I can even read a book in the same way. All I can think about is Laila, Tariq, Mariam and Aziza. I wish I could put a picture to their faces. I feel this more so for Laila, maybe because I have the a similar link with my partner but obviously only on a platonic level and it feels like I know/want to know her. For this, I can't quite put myself in Mariam's shoes but do know that I wish there is something I could do for these women and understand the world of pain that takes place in Afghanistan. There are some chapters where being Laila's savior or Mariam's felt like it is my main goal in life!!! I just cannot wait for the movie.
Regards
Andrew
I have read both your books "The Kite Runner," and "A Thousand Splendid Suns." They are truly works of art, touching on subjects of loyalty, honor, racism and love. I want to thank not only you for these stories but also my wife for enlightening me to a world of literature that will forever educate those who dare to read them. I will being watching for your next book and am looking forward to watching the movies.
Regard,
Joseph
Dear Mr Hosseini-
Your God-given talent to paint a picture in the readers mind with your written word-is truly amazing. I was able to see, feel and smell - truly experience a culture, that I knew nothing about. Your true talent is being able to share with the world both the beauty and tribulation of a people that most of us only read about in a blurb in in the news. After reading your books, I have made a conscience effort to become more aware of the state of the the world outside of my safe-little world. I hope others had the same "awakening".
Thank you.
To bring more awareness of other lives, cultures, communities and views will bring more and more peace to our world. Khaled Hosseini seems to me a peacemaker. His books are a God send and an inspiration to me, they have further opened my heart and mind. Thank You.
Salam Khaled Hosseini
Thank you so much for your beautiful books, your talent is remarkable. I don't read that much, but when I read THE KITE RUNNER I could not stay away from A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS. I am looking forward to the movie of your next book. THE KITE RUNNER is seriously the best movie I've seen. A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS hit me really hard. I couldn't hold my tears back. I am a Afghan girl myself and I can surely place myself in their position. You have a really great talent, I am looking very much forward to your next book.
You should be proud. I know that Afghan people including me, are really proud of a hamwatan like you.
Besiar tashakoor Mr. Hosseini.
Qesahaaie shoma dar qalbemaa ast.
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I've read both 'The Kite Runner' and 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and they are both equally touching. Studying in Indian educational system, we usually have not much reason to deal with the history and culture of Afghanistan, but your splendid books have invoked in me immense interest on the same. I am too, like many others, eager for your next book. I would once again like to mention that your work is commendable and excellent to read.
Regards,
Sukirat
Hi
I felt compelled to thank you for such wonderful writing and fantastic books. My wife introduced me to your books and I was unable to put them down. My favourite is 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and I cannot wait for your next masterpiece. I have been wondering over the title, why 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'?
Namaste Khaled Bhai,
I am kicking my own back for missing such a gem of a book. 'The Kite Runner' is really fantastic. I really liked your "Baba". He is strikingly similar to my Bappa. I had a ride through my childhood. Those wonderful days. I am reading it for the second time and 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' is lying next to me smiling...
I do really feel for the current state of Afghanistan. I cried when I read the news about destruction of the Bamiyan Statues by the horrendous so called Taliban. I feel that you should write more about values and core cultures of the true Afghans, so that the entire world has a different perspective about the Afghan people from the current one of Taliban and Drug traffickers.
And may God give you all the strength and guidance for your humble cause for Afghanistan.
Best Regards,
Rishikesh
Dear Khaled Jaan:
I have read 'The Kite Runner' and watched the movie and absolutely was astonished by it. I'm an Afghan but was born in America and I had no idea how Afghanistan was. But this book took me back to my roots and made me think that I was in Afghanistan. I am currently reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and OMG it is amazing, I cant put the book down! Everywhere I've been going for the past 2 days, since I got the books its in my purse and every chance I get I open it and read it. I wish this was a never ending book, because I'm almost finished with it and I'm so sad, but I want to thank Khaled Hosseini for being the best author out there and giving people like me a taste of Afghanistan. I hope they make a movie on this... I will be waiting!! And I hope Khaled Jan keeps up the great work and writes more novels.
Zaiba
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
On the recommendation from my daughter, I read "The Kite Runner" and could just not put it down! It brought many memories of that area and the friendships created while I and my family lived in Tehran for almost 3 years. I was assigned to the U.S. embassy as an adviser to the Iranian Air Force when the shah was in power. When I finished reading it, I immediately set out to look for "A Thousand Splendid Suns". I was expecting a "let-down" after the first book, but was pleased more with the second with its powerful message of the inequities of the Taliban rule. May God continue to give you talent and wisdom to write a thousand splendid books more.

Dear Mr Hosseini
I haven't read fiction for years as I am a doctor in internal medicine and a mother of 2 young kids. I not only loved the books but they make me feel as if I could write myself.
I am from the UK but lived in Peshawar for about 15 years up to 1995. I can truly see all the scenes in your book as if I was standing there myself.
If you have any tips on how you found time to write and got to where you were I would love to hear from you for some guidance.
Well done brother I am proud that you can make the plight of the Afghan people home to so many in a way that no governments or media people have managed to do.
Good luck and I hope you will publish again soon.

Dear Mr Hosseini,
The two books that you have written are the best books I have ever read. I have never loved a book so much that I would go onto the internet and tell the author how amazing they were. It was very interesting, seeing the culture in Afghanistan. I look forward to your next book and I hope it will exceed the high standard of your other books.
These books are unforgettable. Thank you.

Ya! Hosseini
I feel so lucky that in my time there is a writer who is able to express such raw emotion and as a result bring a tear to any eye... Your books are a blessing in many ways. Just reading through some of the comments above you have inspired so many people. Those who had forgotten about reading, those who had forgotten charity, those who had forgotten the value of life. But most importantly it is evident that you have touched so many hearts. I am sure you understand when I say that perhaps it is in the name... :-)
May Allah bless you and your family and continue to inspire you.

Mr. Hosseini
I have just finished 'The Kite Runner' and am almost done with 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. I have been reading a great deal lately, but your books are by far the most real and inspiring stories. You give your readers the truth, and tell the stories with such warmth. Though the events which occur in your books are ones many people would rather not hear about, I greatly appreciate your books. It makes me quite thankful for the the freedom that we have in America, as well as leads me to pray for the Afghanistan. I knew little of the events going on in Afghanistan because I rarely watch the news or read the paper, because the news that reporters give are usually depressing. But by reading your books, you gave me great insight on the Afghan people and the hardships they all go through, which I know others as well as myself take for granted. The way that you portray your characters in your stories make them seem so alive. Your books show that even living among so much evil and wrong, there can always be hope. Thank you for giving so many people hope. Where there is hope, there is life.
I look forward to more of your stories.

The very best and most touching book I have ever read goes out to 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'...I am truly touched. It brought a tear to my eye. Reading it somehow felt more than (reading), rather felt like an actual event, wanting so desperately to immerse you alongside those in the novel, tugging at your soul, wanting you to be there with them in their times of strife and joy. I will not look at Afghanistan in the same light again(especially the women). Truly a new found respect has been brought upon by your work. Thank you so much for this EXPERIENCE...patiently waiting for your next work of art. -Josh
Dear Khaled Hosseini
I have just finished reading the stunningly poignant ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ and wept bucket loads for the terrible injustices people have suffered in Afghanistan, and the world over. What we humans continue to do to each other in the name of politics and religion astounds me. Through recommendations and present giving, I have also recently read ‘MAUS’, read and seen ‘Persepolis’ and seen the film ‘Hotel Rawanda’. Your books, like these works I mention, are an absolute necessity in a world where the media cherry picks the ‘stories’ it chooses we should focus on and a world that conveniently forgets its greatest sin of shrugging off slaughter and genocide. We fool ourselves in to believing it could not and it will not happen, yet time again, ignore it when it does. It also puts in to perspective my every day trials. So I cannot bear children: I am alive, not inflicted by war and I am able to adopt. So I feel it is still a man’s world: I wear what I wish, have a loving husband who is equal in partnership, an education and a job. I am too flippant about how wonderfully easy my life really is. Your novels serve to remind me to savour every lucky day because right now, people are being tortured, brutalised and murdered because of a megalomaniac’s whim. Your books help to ensure there are still some of us humane enough to never turn the other cheek.
I will donate to the book reading charity.
Very best wishes

Dear Khaled Hosseini,
I have just read 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. The most beautifully written and moving book I have ever read. I couldn't put the book down and once finished I haven't stopped thinking about Mariam and Laila. The book has taught me alot about Afghanistan and makes me feel I want to go there and help the woman and children who are suffering in this war. I hope there will be peace soon. I will be reading 'The Kite Runner' next and look forward to more of your books.
Kindest Regards
Bina

Mr Hosseini,
A simple Message Just to let you know you are an amazing story teller! I have read both your books and finished 'The Kite Runner' film last night, I cannot wait for your other future books to come out.
You Are Unique....
All the Best

Dear Khaled
I am an avid fan of yours having really enjoyed both your novels and the film of 'The Kite Runner'. I do think it is a shame that the film was banned in Afghanistan. I think both your books have done a tremendous amount for the country both in terms of highlghting the problems and in showing us the other side which we don't get to see on the news. It is very enlightening for westerners like me to be able to learn so much of another culture through reading a novel and I am sure it has helped the cause of suffering Afghans no end.
I share your feelings on the case of the Afghan student. I notice your post was nearly a year ago so I do hope the death sentence was repealed. I suspect that it was this kind of blinkered attitude that led to the ban on 'The Kite Runner' and hope that a spirit of democracy, justice, tolerance and compassion will prevail.
As a writer myself, your stories have inspired me and I eagerly await the film version of 'A Thousand Spendid Suns' and your next novel.
Yours in anticipation.

I'm not such a reader and 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' is in fact the only book I've read voluntaraly. :)
You make me proud to be Afghan.

Mr. Hosseini,
I have finished "The Kite Runner" last night. This book is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read. "The Kite Runner" deeply influenced me in many ways..I have felt the pain of the Afghan people in all my cells..The affects of the war are portrayaled adeptly around a childs life. The sensation of the guiltiness gets through the readers heart indirectly and this shows your proficiency in writing..
Thank you for that amazing book.
I hope that the peace and the kites will be back in Afghanistan, Palestine and Iraq...

I finished reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' last night, it took me two days of full reading, I couldn't stop until the end. I read 'The Kite Runner' last year, beautiful. But this novel was really moving and made me feel just as if I was really living main character´s life. Mariam and Laila are just a picture of every women who suffer violence everywhere in the world. This book showed me the reality of women who are not as lucky as I am. Thank you Khaled Hosseini, I´m looking forward for your next novel.

I just finished reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. It was breathtaking. I wonder how Laila and Tariq would be doing these days. Thanks for a vivid and insightful story.
When I find a book compelling I will end up reading it over and over again every so often, This I have done with 1984, Animal Farm and quite a long list of others, A Thousand Golden Suns is now included in this list of mine. And I will most certainly see the film when it comes out.
btw, I have purposefully written "A Thousand Golden Suns", in my previous post because for me, this book has shone and is shining like the sun, it stands out brilliantly among my collection, it has marked me and inspired me.
I have read 'The Kite Runner' and now I'm reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. Its a deeply moving story. I have seen the movie 'Kite Runner' and now I'm just waiting for the movie 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. When does it come out?
Thanks a lot.

Mr. Hosseini
I´ve read both novels, I love them, both are so touching, make me feel and thing a lot about Afghan people, and their personal stories. It is amazing how you describe the women's feelings, I believe you are a great novelist, plenty of feelings and concern for people who are under the effects of war.
I can´t wait for your next books, I bought 'The Kite Runner' film, I enjoy it and cry because the suffering of this country. I keep thinking after many day a finished the books.
Tabrik, Mr. Hosseini for write and share with all of us the beautiful kind of life Afghanistan have before ´73 and, Haili Tashakor for open our hearts and minds at this culture
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
Thank you.
I have read both the books....and they are truly amazing......waiting for a few more....:) thank you
Dear Khaled,
Just wanted to let you know, how much your two books touched me. I was lucky enough to visit Afghanistan in the late 1970s when I was only 20 and staying with friends in Iran. We crossed the border and camped in the desert before visiting Herat.
As a westerner who has visited this part of the world, I was well aware that women in places like Afghanistan do not have the freedom to live as we do, and you have done a wonderful job of highlighting their plight and the story of such a wonderful country torn apart by so many wars. It is terrible to think that few people will have the privilege of visiting "your world" and meeting some of the amazing ordinary people who still live there, as I did.
Thank you again for two truly memorable books which will live with me forever.
Many thanks,
Karen C.
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
We are from Mexico, we are a group or 9 girlfriends, that have a reading club, we just finished your book, 'The Kite Runner', and it moved us all in many different ways... it was a great experience....
Thanks a lot for sharing your culture with us, it made me see Afghanistan in a way we never had before....
I hope that peace will be soon in Afghanistan, as well as the rest of the world.
Thanks a lot

I reluctantly (but not ungratefully) accepted "A Thousand Splendid Suns" as a birthday gift from someone special. I say reluctantly because, well, I expected something more special than just a hurriedly wrapped paperback, store-bought and impersonal. And I don't really get to read books anymore these days, except when I take the bus to go home to my province and I crave for something, anything, to read.
One of those bus rides found me silently weeping for little Mariam, four chapters into your book.
I have cherished every word since, and have even done research on Afghan things I knew nothing about before reading this.
You may get this a lot, but your book is at the same heartbreaking, beautiful, miserable and hopeful and it kept me wishing a movie version comes out. I just tried to Google "A Thousand Splendid Suns movie" and found out.
Thank God.
Dear Khaled,
I have read both "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and I can't wait to read your next book.
I just want to thank you for these books. They have filled my heart with respect & love to the people less fortunate than me. I pray for peace in Afghanistan. Keep up the good work.
I will forever be an admirer of your work.
Adriana Soares (Brazil).
Mr. Hosseini.. I just recently brought "The Kite Runner", I've read only up to the start of the "Winter Episode".. I'm a fast reader who finishes up paperbacks in one sitting... but its with a heavy heart and swelled up eyes that I leaf through the pages of "The Kite Runner"...The magic of a novel lies in its ability to touch the soul and to make the reader enter a brotherhood with all the people who have read it and the person who wrote it.. this one certainly has the MAGIC TOUCH.... This single book will make you immortal.. If there is one book which I would want my Son & Daughter to read, its THIS, I'm sure it would make them better human beings... right now, I'm trying to catch up with the history of Hazaras (I never heard about them before).. thank you for making me more compassionate.. Every single word of your book is beautifully placed....
Dear Khaled Hosseini,
Thank you for giving me the pleasure of reading your book 'The Kite Runner'. I read the book and then I watched the movie, a lot of it have to do with my childhood, so I literary cried many times in the movie. I am reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns', and without a doubt this book is golden by the sense of richness of expression it has. Man, I love your books and I think you are one of the greatest writers in history of our time!
Salamat and good luck
Dear Khaled Hosseini,
I just finished your book, 'A Thousand Splendid Suns', and I have to say it broke my heart, and it shed some light on a culture I hear about on the news.
The characters were so real. I could hardly put the book down, and I did not want it to end.
I also read ' The Kite Runner', and I did not think it possible to walk away from another book with such strong feelings. But, with 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' you did it again.
I can't really express how I feel as I am writing this. All I can say is that your words have had an impact on me. And I thank you for allow me to travel across the world as I read your books, my heart breaks for the pain and suffering of the people of Afghanistan.
I gladly await your next book.
Dear Khaled
I finished reading 'The Kite Runner' last night, my only regret is that I haven't read it sooner as I believe it was released in 2003 here in the UK. Your story moved me on many levels, and though there is a great deal of hope and redemption it is the sadness that has struck me the most. I found myself racing through it whilst not wanting it to end, I hope this makes sense to others who have enjoyed the book. I am looking forward to reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' but want the fullness of 'The Kite Runner' to linger in my memory a little longer. Thank you so much for this book, I look forward to following you future works.

Dear Khaled Hosseini,
First of all I want to say thank you very much for giving us two fantastic books. I can only tell you, that you gave us a wonderful gift, with the new generation of Afghans not only enjoying the reading of the two novels, but supplementing the Afghan history and its background.
Through your books I learned a lot about Afghanistan.
Thank you
Best regards,
M
Mr. Khaled,
I just finished "A Thousand Splendid Suns". I bought it when I hadn't finished "The Kite Runner". I loved both. The relationship between the baba and Amir translated to my own childhood (Between my widow mother and I). About "A Thousand. Splendid Suns".. I am in shock that all this things happened to Afghan girls that are my age, and I didn´t know .In what world I'd lived? Thanks for opening my eyes. ¡Wonderful books!
Carla, from México
Dear Khaled,
Thank you for writing such amazing books. You're an excellent author, and, I dare say, an even better person.
Thanks to you, now even more people are aware of what has happened and is happening, in Afghanistan. Your books melt my heart and my soul. Again: thank you.
Greetings from Mexico,

Dear Dr. Hosseini,
Your two books made me a big reader.I was never such a reader and used to read only course books and sometimes magazines. When I saw the cover of 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' I wanted to have it but when I started reading it I became a huge fan of yours.I have even read 'The Kite Runner' now. Both the books are dynamic and there is no other book like them.
Hope you write many more books and I get to read them.
GOOD LUCK
waiting for your next book.

Hi Khaled,
I've just returned from my honeymoon, where I was fortunate to have the time and space to be able to indulge in the luxury of reading your book, "A Thousand Splendid Suns".
I loved it. There is nothing more to say. It's a wonderful and rich work of art that I pored over for as many hours as I could handle each day before falling asleep with exhaustion!
More importantly, the fact that it is only your second novel has inspired me to begin the process of writing my own. I've thought about it, wrestled with it, and dreamt about it for years - and now I am choosing to move forward with some action. Thank you for providing the forum for the inspiration to be found...
I would be extremely grateful to hear of any tips, simple or complex, that you might be able to offer as I launch myself into this process. None the least of which would be how to balance the writing with a full time job and post graduate study. That's in addition to that other little thing...life.
Anyway - enough nattering from me. Thank you again for crafting such a beautiful and vivid story that allows those of us who are not familiar with your home some insight into its beauty and its terrors.
Kendall Macdowell (Melbourne, Australia)
Dear Mr. Hosseini;
I could never express the impact 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' had on me, it is the best book I have ever read and I am longing for your upcoming work. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to learn about Afghanistan and its people.
Bless You
TH(Palestine)
Dear Mr. Hosseini,
I read both of your novels. They are very nice. First I had read 'The Kite Runner' and I was depressed. It was so sad. And than I begun to read books about Afghanistan. And then I read your second novel. Now, all my thought are changed. Thank you..
Dear Khaled,
'A Thousand Splendid Suns'! Wow, what an unforgettable novel. Thank you for taking me on a breathtaking journey, of hope, love, courage, strength and submissiveness! You have opened my eyes to the lives of Afghan women, who are, I believe are true to their men and families. Who are honorable and just simply amazing. Thank you for inspiring me to look into ways of helping other Afghan women in my country-NZ and afar.
Blessings, Ole
Hello,
I enjoyed reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. Can you give us a update on the movie version? When is it expected to be released? Has filming began yet? As you can tell I am so excited to see the film version, and there is a huge group girls that I know are waiting to see it too. I was so captivated by the book that I recommended it to all my friends and they in turn have recommended it to others.
Best,
Ana
Mr Hosseini,
I used to be an die-hard reader when I was much younger. It wasn't until I saw you on "Tavis Smiley" promoting your book a few years ago, that my interest was sparked again to get back into reading. I finally obtained a copy of "The Kite Runner" and read it. I must say, that this book is ranked at the top of my best novel list. You are officially my favorite author by far. It was full of twists that I never saw coming and very provoking situations that left me dumb-founded. "The Kite Runner" was a book that left one thinking about karma, how your life always seems to come full circle and that the truth will always set you free, no matter how long it takes. Thank you so much Mr Hosseini, for your thought-provoking and moving story I look forward to viewing the film.
Your adoring fan,
Nicole
PS I'm also currently reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns", wonderful just wonderful! I will be looking forward to your next novel. I know it will be an absolute masterpiece!
